Grandchildren!!!???!!! Don couldn't wait to be a grandfather. I have several fond memories but two stand out especially in my mind. The first was when I was pregnant with Tyler (the first grandchild and only grandson) - "of course you are going to name him Albert, right? Don would say." We would laugh. When I was carrying his second grandchild (Brooke-Leigh, the first of 4 granddaughters) Don said, "well, of course you will name her Alberta!!" Don was determined to get his name in there somewhere. I still giggle hearing him asking at every phone call and get together...Albert or Alberta??? But I suppose my deepest and most precious memory dances around my Christmas Cookies. I bake dozens of different tasty treats and Don looked forward to each and every one. My "Hello Dollies" were renamed "Goodbye Lucies" - that name stuck and to this day we call them "Goodbye Lucies" a little bit of Don every Christmas. But one Christmas we travelled to Toronto and my job was to bring the homemade buns and the Christmas Goodies. Through the packing fiasco the treats were all but forgotten. We arrived in Toronto empty handed much to Don's disappointment...his reply to this was "it just isn't Christmas without Shelley's Christmas Cookies!" When I travel I always pack them first now. God Bless you Don, travel safe, rest in peace and know you will never be forgotten...you live on in our precious memories. You will be missed. Your daughter Shelley (Joe's wife).

Fishing, hockey games, eating munchies on the sofa while watching hockey night in Canada on Saturday nights. All amazing memories I have of my Grandfather. There is however one memory that protrudes in my bank of Grandfather/Grandson memories that would be quite hard to miss in my mind. It was a warm and sunny spring afternoon in Norwood, on the front lawn was where I sat upon my Grandfathers lap chatting away like a young squirrel. The orange shape shifter turned slowly in the faint breeze as it hung from the old yet familiar tree. When the question came to me suddenly, "Grandfather why do socks get holes in them?". He went on to explain how objects wear down over time and continued into using an example i will never forget. He looked at me and said while grinning "Imagine if i kissed you on the cheek, over and over again, after a while I would form a hole in my lip from kissing you so much." This intriguing explanation will now and forever stay with me. Rest in peace Grandfather, you will be missed greatly. Love always your Grandson.

Dear Leslie family. My deepest condolences on the loss of Don. I sang in the choir at VPUC with him. It was so nice to see him at the Christmas Eve service. I know he will be missed by the choir. He was a very nice man and any time I saw him he was always cheerful. Again my sympathies to all your family at this time. Louise Brown

Dear Alice and family,
I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Don. I have many fond memories of when Don and I worked together at the Danforth Canada Employment Centre. Don was a good mentor and role model. He loved his family very much and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. I know all of you will greatly miss him. May the love of family and friends help you through this sad time. God bless.
With deepest sympathy, Terry William

What is a hero? A hero is a dad. A hero is someone who takes you to hockey practice every Sunday. A hero is someone who gets you ready for life. A hero is someone that gives you opportunity for life. A hero is someone that catapults you into life. A hero is a dad who becomes a dad by choice and not because he has to. My hero is gone. I love you dad. You are in a better place now. With all my love...your son and best friend Joe - I miss my hero.

He always had a smile when he greeted you, he was funny, had a great sense of humor, and was always there to offer support and advice, and he never laughed at anyone else's expense, may he find the peace he deserves- Niece- Jennifer Mandley
