Although we haven't seen Don in a long time, we are very sad to hear from Marsha of Don's passing. He was our neighbour for a number of years and enjoyed him immensely. Our thoughts are with Marsha and the family.

"A friend is one who strengthens you with prayers, blesses you with love and encourages you with hope." (unknown)
Don was the ultimate friend! His passing has left a huge hole in our lives and in our hearts. We will long treasure the memories of our fishing trips with Don to Tofino and Cluxewe on Vancouver Island. On one of these trips, Don caught a beautiful chrome silver Coho at Tofino and decided to bring it home for dinner (this was rare as Don was mostly a catch and release fly angler). Unfortunately, the slimy creature slipped from his hands as he was cleaning it over the side of the boat. I don't remember the exact words spoken in the aftermath but that's probably a good thing. Don loved a good bottle of wine and growing orchids. We loved it when Don and Marsha would come to Seattle for the Flower and Garden Show. There was always a side trip to Columbia Winery and wonderful dining experiences. I remember one evening that we all huddled outside under the small covered terrace at Tropea's as we waited to be seated at a table inside. Tropea is a small “hole in the wall” Italian restaurant in Redmond. The owner brought us out glasses of wine (as he knew it would be long wait) and we had a great time sharing stories and visiting with some of the other customers (also waiting). But Don was more than just a “good time” friend. When Les had his stroke, Don and Marsha came to provide support during some very difficult dark days. Their friendship and visits have continued over the months and years as Les recovers. Don continued to provide companionship to Les even when they could no longer fish together and he did his best to see that Les's caregiver (me) got a needed break by staying with Les while Marsha and I went off shopping. We are truly blessed to have so many wonderful memories of Don and the many wonderful ways he bestowed his friendship on us. Our hearts and prayers are with Marsha and the rest of Don's family today. We regret we are unable to attend the service. We will miss Don a lot but we know that you guys will miss him more.
Our love,
Carol and Les Johnson

I will miss your generosity and joining you for the odd shandy. Have a good chat with Peter about fishing.

I went through school with Don. A great guy totally dedicated on whatever issue he was focused.
We played football together at a time before contact lenses were affordable. I was so blind, I wore an old pair of glasses taped to me under my helmet but Don just went without.... so I became "Specs" and he was "Squint". Good times!
A a member of the BC Federation of Flyfishers, I benefited from Don's leadership. Sports-fishing is better because of his direction and efforts.... a wonderful legacy.

I am very sorry to learn of Don's passing. Although I have not seen him in many years, we always got along well. I first met Don as a member of the Totem Flyfishers. Since those early days, I have bumped into him at various times and places from Spences Bridge to Clayoquot Sound and always enjoyed our conversations. My condolences to his wife and family. Don will be missed.
