SSgt. Donald L. Pollard Sr., a decorated Vietnam War veteran, esteemed law enforcement leader, and devoted father, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Rochester, New York. He was 80.

Born on February 1, 1945, Donald dedicated his life to service, courage, and leadership. A proud U.S. Marine, he served multiple tours in the Vietnam War, earning numerous awards, medals and commendations for acts of valor in combat. He retired as a Staff Sergeant, leaving behind a legacy of strength and mentorship that inspired many Marines under his command.

Following his military career, Donald continued his commitment to protecting others as a Detective Captain with the Naval Base Police Department in Norfolk, Virginia. For decades, he safeguarded service members and civilians at one of the nation's largest naval installations. His colleagues remember him as a sharp investigator, a mentor to young officers, and a steadfast advocate for justice. He was also honored as Policeman of the Year in California for his outstanding service.

Beyond his professional achievements, Donald was a man of quiet strength and unwavering dedication to his family. He cherished time with loved ones and took great pride in his children. His impact extended beyond his immediate family to the many friends and comrades who were fortunate to know him.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy and his beloved children, Wendy (Mike), Kristy (Mike), Kelly (Stephen), Michael (Ivy), Theresa (Scott), and Donald Jr.; as well as his grandchildren and many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, his children request donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa Florida 33607, in his memory. A memorial service date is unknown at this time.
