What I loved about Don was that he was alway genuinely glad to see me when I came to work, like I personally mattered to him. He always made an effort to compliment me which always made me feel better during times of personal stress. I liked walking by his room and seeing him listening to his beloved music----I think it made him feel better even when he was feeling rough.

My name is Joan and I work here at Fellburn. I wanted to let you know that I feel truly honored as well as priviledged to have met your father. He was forever grateful to me for initiating the process to have him removed from those tube feeds. He would often tell people that I was the nurse responsible for this and he was always taking the time to thank me. One time while in the dining room one resident became verbally abusive to another resident and after I intervened your father said " That's right, you tell him. Way to go Joan!!!" then told his dinner companion, "She's good, I like her" I just looked at your dad , smiled and he gave me a little wink.

Don made quite an impact at Fellburn Care Centre. As the Music Therapist at Fellburn, I came to know this lovely man, for a short while. Many of the staff & residents were cheered by the recorded music Don played, continually working on his singing to improve his vocal quality. He was very focused, committed and he never gave up. Don was also a regular participant in the Bell Choir, a music ensemble that plays timeless classics using the Suzuki Tone Chimes. Don's reminiscences of life in the Caribbean often captivated other residents, encouraging them to share their own stories. He was a smart, educated, and gentle man. We will miss his presence and miss his music. Blessings.
