Donald Trapasso Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 5 to Sep. 8, 2013.

8/7/1960-6/10/2013

Born at Foster Memorial Hospital (now Community Memorial Hospital passed away after a battle with Guillain-Barre and congestive heart failure. Donald was born and raised in Ventura and attended Mills Elementary School. He later moved to Lakewood, CA and graduated from Artesia High. He was an avid tennis player and was on the varsity tennis team while at Artesia. He went on to put himself through San Diego State University, where he earned a degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. After college, Donald moved to Pismo Beach-according to him, the most peaceful and beautiful place in the world. He lived in Oregon, Templeton and San Luis Obispo, before eventually settling back in Ventura 3 years ago. He spent thirty years in the medical field, starting on the bench as a lab technician and moving up to Lab Manager/Director. He worked for Kaiser Permanente in Oregon, Twin City Hospital in Atascadero and French Hospital in San Luis Obispo, and most recently VCMC in Ventura. Donald was one of the most caring, compassionate, and giving individuals you would ever meet. He had a huge heart especially for any dog and he spent many hours volunteering for dog rescues in Oregon and California.

Donald is survived by his mother Kathie Trapasso of Ventura; brother Joe and wife Debbie Trapasso of Shingle Springs, CA; sisters Pat Van Dyke of McKinney, Texas; Linda and husband Keith Duval of Ventura; Monica Proctor and fiance Curtis Austin of Aliso Viejo; and his nephews and nieces and their children. A private celebration of his life was held at Shell Beach. Please remember to let your friends and loved ones know how much they mean to you. Cherish each and every day.

Don was my roommate in college at San Diego State. Such a warm and genuine human being. He was super smart and seemed to get straight A's without even trying (I was jealous since I had to study hard). I could talk with Don for hours - and we shared long, deep chats about all kinds of things. He was super interested in so many things - and very well read. I was shocked to hear he passed away. My prayers to family and friends. He is remembered and missed in so many ways.

I really enjoyed working with Don on the lab projects that he assigned to me. He always expressed encouragement for in-process projects and thanks for completed ones. When he learned something new or saw a new solution to an old problem, his look of delight was a pleasure to share.

Don you will be missed greatly by those of us who knew you as the gentle loving soul you will always be in our hearts.
You are in good company. My mother passed away in July. You always asked me about her I'm sure heaven welcomed a new angel when you arrived!
Miss you lots

I have so many things to say about you, Donald. I miss you so much. I think of you everyday. I talk to you everyday. I cry, I laugh, I get mad and still in pain with your passing. I will always remember the times we had and shared when we were young and also our adult lives. You and I could talk about anything and we both understood where each other was coming from. You and I walked down some roads together that no one knows and will always just be between us. You will always be in my heart, mind, body, soul, and blood. Your caring for others, sense of humor, wisdom, love, kindness and devotion is just the many traits you had/have. I can't forget the love for sushi we shared, as we had some good times filling up on everything at the sushi bar then unable to move. You opened up your house to me and my family which a lot of people wouldn't do. Your love for your animals just showed how much of a heart you had/have. You didn't like Country music, but I have a song for you that always bring tears to my eyes. It is called “OVER YOU” by Miranda Lambert. I play it for you all the time and can hear you telling me, “Why did you switch to Country?” Donald, you were not only my brother, but my best friend. My birthday will be a difficult one, as always on September 16, I got a Father Hidago day card (Mexican Independence Day), never a birthday card. This was the sense of humor I loved and kidding around we shared and I miss it. I love you and will always love you. I still can't believe you are gone, but with certain signs and your star I talk to every night, you are still with us. Someday we will be together again. Your sister, Monica
