Donald WHIDDEN Obituary
August 13 1941 - February 3 2014
After a courageous battle with many health issues over the years, Don passed away peacefully with his family at his side.
He will always be remembered by his wife Barbara; his children John (Colleen), Megan (Michael) and Michael (Ashley); his grandchildren Aleida, Twila, Hannah and Maclean. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Peter (Joanne); his former wife Linda (Roger); nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends around the world.
He loved his wife, family and friends very much and they all knew it; he loved sports, especially rugby and hockey; he loved to travel and did so often. He was a warm, intelligent, charitable gentleman with a wry sense of humour - all characteristics that will remain as his legacy.
A Memorial Service will be held at Central Baptist Church, 9419 - 95 Street, Edmonton on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4500 Stn S Edmonton AB T6E 6K2.

Don was a true gentleman. It was a privilege and honour to know him over the years and to be able to call him a friend. He is a cornerstone and legend in the Edmonton, Alberta and Canadian rugby community. Deepest condolences to his family.

I met Don back about 1970 when he welcomed me to the Tiger Rugby Club. He was instrumental in my friends and I enjoying our years with the Tigers. He made a huge contribution to Canadian Rugby. My condolences to his family and to his many friends.

I am saddened to hear of Don's passing. I met him in 1984 near the beginning of my career and in the middle of his at the U of A. He was always kind and was a real gentleman. My condolences to Don's family during this difficult time.

I have just learned of Don's passing.
My heart goes out to his family.
I worked for his Dad, Mac, for some years at the U. of A. I just find it hard to believe that Mac's youngest son, Don, is gone.
I have fond memories of the young Don and his Dad. When I saw Don a few years ago in the cafe at the hospital, I thought I was seeing a ghost: he looked so much like his deceased Dad.... for whom I had incredible respect and love. Don was thoughtful enough to send us a Congratulations card on behalf of his dad on our 50th Wedding Anniversary. When I saw him at the hockey games = I just had to give him a hug -- he handled himself so much like his Dad.
Now that I have read his Obits -- I know he was a great person just like his Dad.
My condolances go to his family and to his brother, Peter and his family.
