Our boy did it!!
He graduated from High School with honors in several different areas and with his life-time friends. I was teasing him he looked like a Christmas tree with all the decorations around his neck. He definitely got your brains and looks! We had a big party to celebrate he and his friends. It was great!
On top of that one week later, he and I went to his orientation at the University of Central Florida. He starts this summer and walks in with almost a year of credits behind him.
I am so very proud of him.
Please keep guiding and looking after him as he starts this new chapter in his life! He is definitely blessed!

Dearest Donnette, how all the emotions just came flooding back scrolling through this memorial. We are nearing you birthday and the day you left this Earth. How have 10 years passed? It is hard to process. You are not forgotten and will not be at the STTC. We have repurposed the EST shelter in the back of the building to a gym. Because you always had the biggest heart the gym is being dedicated to you. It will be the Hart Fitness Center. Ethan just wrote you a note. We have a cabinet in the house with your precious items and the books we made of us. So he can always look back to remember you.
He is growing into a complete gentlemen. The best personality and a very caring soul. His future looks extremely bright with a positive attitude. Everything you hoped and wished for.
When he gets made at me I start to laugh because he has the same crinkled up forehead and looks just like you. As you did, he just gets madder at me. As he stated he will be a freshman in high school and signed up for Spanish I. Thanks, one subject I was not very good at. LOL
We keep in touch with your Mom, Sam , Magda, Anthony and the girls. He went out last year to see them, but not this year due to the epidemic. We will get with them again soon.
Plus we have been dealing with each other for over 5 months during the epidemic with not many brakes. You would have strangled me by now LOL

Ethan did it!
Our son has earned his Black Belt on 23 January 2016. He went through two days of 4 hours each day of testing and worked very hard for 6 months without giving up.
What really motivated him were all the prayers, positive statements and a lot of family and friends showing up for his final testing and ceremony. Our family and extended family (neighbors, school teachers and friends, camping and karate families and friends) showed up when it was open to public to root him to finish. It was awesome and showed us how blessed he and I are.
We are definitely blessed with these people!
I remember us signing him up for Karate when he was 3 years old and you were not sure how he would do.
Well, he has achieved more than the both of us thought!!
It has taught and built his self esteem, leadership, manners and how to interact with others. More than what you and I thought.
He has now asked me to allow him to continue into the karate's Leadership Club. This is something he has always wanted to do help others and TEACH. Remember, how he has always wanted to be a teacher ever since he was very young. How you were the good student and I was always in trouble. LOL
Plus he has gotten me motivated to exercise again!
I know you are watching and guiding him! Thank you because I could not do it alone.
I am blessed to have you, GiGi, Grandma Rose, Eloy and everyone else guiding him from up there and then all of our family and extended family here helping me.

Ethan and I had a great Christmas. Ethan has grown up and become a little gentlemen. He is doing so well in school and loves to learn. This 4th grade year, he joined the BETA, Chorus, Running and Spanish school clubs. He has maintain his grades while working on his Black Belt prep classes.
Yes, he will be testing next month for his Black Belt!
I will never forget the first day you and I took him to karate (lil Dragons on Saturday morning.) You were so nervous and not to sure if he would be able to do this or like it. Then you saw him excel and achieve several belts as a Lil Dragon and then into the official belts. Well now, your lil man (jellybean) will be testing for his Black Belt. He is trying so hard and working for it everyday. I am very proud of him and tell everyone how well he is doing.
I believe he is not only doing this for himself, but to show you how he has found something he enjoys and how he can achieve the goals you help set for him. He has had several things come up against him in this quest for a Black Belt, but he has never stopped, given up or quit to get a Black Belt status. Ethan has told me that he does not want to give up and he will do whatever it takes. In our talks, he remembers how we would take him to karate and how he loved to show you what he learned.
He tells me when he speaks with you and about what. It always seem to be the nights prior to our talks and when I hear him laughing and giggling in his sleep. He tells me how he is telling you what he has done and what he wants to do. You never speak you just smile when he does the right things and makes the right choices. Thank you for being there and helping me.
We know that you live in our hearts. Ethan is turning out to be the perfect Lil gentleman you wanted. Thank you for your help and guidance.

Today (4 August) is your earth birthday and we are thinking of you. Yesterday, Ethan and I put some flowers on your site yesterday. Also, we sent a note to you in heaven by balloons.
In two days, it will be your second anniversary with your angelic wings. Ethan and I know you are with us everyday guiding us from the evil we will never know. We thank you for that and the people you have brought us into our lives that are teaching us how to enjoy life again.
Ethan is doing fantastic. He will be starting third grade in two weeks. He is becoming more independent. In which, you would have NOT liked. The best thing, he is growing up to be a respectful gentlemen just as you wanted.
This summer, Ethan's swimming ability has taken on leaps and bounds and likes to try new foods. He loves to travel and do new things also. In karate, he has attained his second brown belt. He is one belt away to start training for his black belt.
We love you and miss you. However we know and see signs that your are guiding us. I am finally learning how to enjoy life and watch Ethan grow into the young man we always wanted. I just wish I was not such a block head on your time on earth and spend more quality time with you and him.

Today is 1 January 2014. Ethan and I got through 2013 with your guidance and direction from above. We are very blessed to have such a beautiful angel. He and I are Best Friends and continue to grow stronger as ever. Ethan is a true blessing and the best kid ever.

Dear Dina:
It's been almost a year and two months since you left us. Sometimes when we miss you a lot it seems like all the joy in the world went with you. Luckily, memories of you bring joy to dreary days. Whenever Magda goes shopping, she thinks of you (WWDD-What would Donnette Do?). Anthony thinks of you when he goes running because he downloaded disco songs you used to like onto his I Pod, (he saw a brilliant rainbow early on your birthday morning-was it you?). Andrea and Analuz remember your smile and your make up collection. We know you're with us when times are bad and good. On bright sunny days we think of you smiling.
We miss you more than you can imagine. You were so generous and caring. If the worst thing we can say about you was that you were too nice to people, then you lived a great life. We'll never know why you were taken away so soon, and we'll probably never understand. The greedy side of us sometimes is angry that you're gone. Sometimes we expect you to call, or we want to find you to see if we can go to visit you during a certain time. The sadness felt when we realize you're not here anymore can be unbearable. The appreciative side of us realizes how lucky we were to have had you in our lives. Even though the time was too brief, we are better off to have known you. You are constantly in our thoughts.
Thank you for finding Pat and giving us Ethan. They're good guys and we love to see them carrying on your memory. Whenever we see Ethan we see your mannerisms. We have your memories and pictures, and we know you are with us. One day we will see you again.

I am so happy to know that your life in Florida with Pat and Ethan was so wonderful! That was all that I ever wanted for such a great friend. We had so many laughs, and shared a few tears. I am so grateful that you had so many people in your life that continue to be a part of Pat and Ethan's life. You are greatly missed and thought of often.
Pat, I can't imagine what this last year has been like. I know that Ethan is blessed to have such a wonderful father, and I am so glad you have each other. I will never forget when you and Donnette changed a friendship to something much more, and I was so happy to see two friends find each other and be so in love! I look back on so many conversations that Donut and I had about marriage and having our children. I only wish we could have spent time together as families. Thank you so much Pat for loving my beautiful friend, and for being such a great Daddy to that beautiful child.

A story for Ethan that I wanted to capture and save:
Ethan it was your first day of 2nd grade (19 August 2013). Your teacher was Mrs. Fisher and you found out that Aiden B., Andy V. and Josh R. were all in your class (old Star Child and prior classmates). That morning you were so excited and asked if we could take the 2004 Jeep Rubicon (Red Head) with the top down to school. It was beautiful bright sunny Florida morning with barely any clouds, so we took off for Sunrise Elementary with the top down.
While I was standing with you at your classroom door and you were playing with your buddies, you came up and told me that you loved me very much and how you wish Mommy could be here and you loved her. I explained that she is here with you now, we just cant see her. You had a big smile and told me 'I know she told me'. Your class bell rang and I watched you go into the room.
I left and climbed back into the Jeep. As I have done every morning since Mommy left for heaven, I look up towards heaven and the sun and said "Love and Miss you, Gorgeous'. While I was leaving the parking lot, a light sprinkle fell upon the jeep. Telling me she was there and was watching you as always. There were no clouds above me or sprinklers on nearby, just her tears from heaven.
Later that night as I was tucking you into bed, I told you that story. You again stated 'I know she talked to me and helped through the day.' Then, you asked for something: a 'Ethan sandwich'. This was a term only your Mommy and I did with you. Where we would squeeze you in between us and then kiss each side of your face. I have not heard that term or hear you ask for that since we were in the hospital with mommy. So I gave you a big hug and a kiss on a cheek. I told you that I was sorry because I can only do one side. You stated 'Its okay Daddy, because I felt Mommy kiss this side' as you touched the other side of your face.
I wrote this short story for you to ALWAYS remember that your Mother loves you more than anything else. She will always be here and I don't want you to ever forget that. There has been countless signs from her to let us know she is heaven and watching you closely. You are very blessed to have such a Guardian Angel.

Donnette,
Don't you worry, Pat is, as you suspected, an astounding father. Ethan is a splendid and strong young man. He looks so much like you that we will never forget your pretty face. Though I expect I should say handsome face since he is a dude.
We will always miss you and think of you in special places, in people's faces, in things and at remarkable times. The things that remind me of you are those that always will:
- The Mall
- Epcot
- The zoo in Sanford
- Cruising
- The Mall (that whole shopping thing cannot be overstated)
- August
- Handmade jewelry
- The Food and Wine Festival
- The best homemade salsa and enchiladas
- Your little office at STTC
- Those nasty energy drinks, you Rockstar!
- Pat and Ethan………
And those that sneak up on me:
- A call from your old phone number at work
- A black cat (still don't like ‘em)
- A dark colored Rogue or the neighbor's Rav4

- Strawberries and ice cream (maybe you can eat them now)
This has been a tough year but we all have wonderful Donnette memories and I, for one, plan to dwell on those happy reminders and make new ones every day. Thanks for having graced our lives with your too short, but richly full, life.

We can't believe our Donnette has been gone from us for a year now. As we have watched the two of you try to start a new life, we can't explain the heartache we have felt for you. We know that Donnette will be greeting us one day with all things wonderful and beautiful to share. Meantime, we all miss her so very much.
Donnette, our promise to you is to always be here for your family. We will do everything we can to keep your loving memory alive for your "Jellybean".

To my Wife, Best Friend and Soul Mate,
It has been almost a year since you left for Heaven and the first time Ethan and I have not been able to physically celebrate your birthday with you. Usually we would be shopping at a mall, Disney, on a cruise and/or at the beach.
Even though int he past, I would curse carrying all the packages and running from here to there, I would give anything right now to be able to do it one more time with you.
This past year has been rough, but you have blessed me with my rock (Ethan). I know you would be extremely proud of your 'Lil man'/'Bo Bo'. He is continuing your work by making his daddy into a better man. I just wish I could have been a better man and been there every moment more for you during your short time here on Earth.
Ethan and I have grown closer together much more than a Father-Son but as Best Friends. I have you to thank for that. Ethan has so much love and carrying it is amazing and it is a copy and reminder of your big heart and love.
He also has your looks (thank God), your facial expression and your mannerism. Thank you for blessing me with someone so awesome to help me through these times. If it was not for Ethan, I would definitely be a empty soul.
We miss you very much and pray for your guidance and tell you how much we miss and love you every night. Please continue guiding Ethan and I in our path of life on Earth. I know the future will bring on blessings that you will have aligned for us.

My Precious Donnette,
You will never be forgotten, not ever. I can't find the right words to tell you how much we miss you, every single day.
I remember all the shopping and wrapping we did before Christmas. You were so thoughtful making sure everybody got the perfect gift, beautifully wrapped, especially, Ethan and Pat. I know from our conversation how much you loved them both. Ethan was your pride and joy, and Pat was your strength, your rock. Pat is doing a great taking care of Ethan.
