Dorothy Sims Obituary

CHELMSFORD — Dorothy Sims, 89, of Chelmsford, formerly of Harwich, died June 2 surrounded by her loving son and daughter after a brief illness. Dorothy was predeceased five years ago by her husband of 57 years, Robert C. Sims.

She was born May 4, 1921, a loving daughter of the late Arthur E. and Annie E. Tomes of Melrose.

Dorothy loved retirement on Cape Cod and enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and friends, especially to Bermuda, Florida, and the Bahamas. Dorothy remained close to her high school friends throughout her life. She loved to read and bake. She was an excellent cook who kept her family well stocked with pies, breads and cookies for all special occasions. She always enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren at the beach.

Dorothy is survived by her son Andrew C. Sims and his wife Marie of Chelmsford, her daughter Deborah Sims Gibson of Chelmsford, and her grandchildren Kelly Hoogeboom and her husband Chris of S. Hadley, David Sims and his wife Lisa of Chelmsford, Christopher Sims and Kenneth Sims of Chelmsford. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters Lillian Unverzagt of Belmont, Winifred Jacobs of Reading, Ruth Doliber of Reading and her brother Harry Tomes of Florida.

There will be a graveside service Monday June 7, 2010 at the Belmont Cemetery, 121 Grove St., Belmont, MA 02478 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Salvation Army 150 Appleton Street, Lowell, MA 01852-2507.
