Douglas Goudie

Garrett Park, MD - Goudie, Douglas Reid, 47, of Garrett Park, MD, died June 4, 2018, from complications relating to colon cancer. Born in Pontiac, MI, on September 19,1970, he graduated from Rochester High School in 1988. He attended Albion College, graduating in 1992, and did graduate work at Georgetown University. He married Ann McCulloch in 1998 and was the proud father of Will, 15, and Maggie, 11. He spent his career working in Washington's international trade community, beginning with the Automotive Trade Policy Council and the National Association of Manufacturers, and, until his death, Pfizer, where he served as Director of International Trade. His work challenged him as he traveled across the world and photos of his signature socks delighted those who loved him. He was a member of Silver Spring United Methodist Church, a voracious reader, accomplished gourmet, and scrappy marathon runner. His intellect and wit were outpaced only by his love for family and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his father, William Goudie. In addition to Ann, Will, and Maggie, he is survived by his mother, Janet Goudie, brother Ted (Rachel) Goudie, nieces Aly and Leah Goudie, and countless family members, friends and colleagues who will mourn his loss but be inspired by his life. Doug's formidable spirit stayed with him until the very end. Visitation will be Sunday, June 10, at the Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, at Silver Spring United Methodist Church, 8900 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, MD, at 11:00 a.m.

Although I did not know Doug very well from high school, I do remember him being funny, witty, a fast runner and very smart. He obviously influenced and inspired many other people in his life, and that's a rare gift. My condolences to the family and I am glad he gave many people great memories.

Doug persevered in this cancer thing as he did in life. The Lord must need Home for a very special reason. I know one reason is to watch over his Ann, Will, and Maggs forever. Rest in eternal peace Doug.

We lost a giant of a man in his field, a very good man and a dear friend. You lost a devoted, loving husband, father and guide. I will remember him as a caring friend and confidant, his wit unsurpassed, and a constant source of clever analysis. His love of family shone through all. Farewell dear friend. I finally finished your socks.

I will miss the traveling socks dearly. I will miss his pictures of his traditional thanksgiving and other holiday feasts! But most of all I am lucky to have known him- he was a truly genuine person with a sharp wit and just overall good person.

Additional words escape me. You know how much Doug means to you, his family, his friends, his colleagues, and to virtually anyone who met him. I'll miss him. I'll remember our Cleveland Park days fondly forever.
