Douglas Raymond Speeler, 80. Douglas Raymond Speeler, 80 years old passed away January 9th, 2019.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday January 19th at The Sylvan Abby Funeral Home at 12:00pm. 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida.
Douglas was born on September 24th 1938 in St. Louis Missouri. He attended Boga Ciega high school and became a successful business owner in the Marine Construction Industry. Doug Speeler spent 60 years developing and perfecting the industry through hard work, political savvy and developing life long relationships. He served as an expert witness in Florida Courts, gave testimony before Municipal Governments, County Board of Commissioners, and the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida sitting as the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund. He also served as an Officer on the Executive Committee of the Florida Marine Contactors Association.
Douglas was married to Renee Speeler on October 15, 1978. They were married for 40 years.
Douglas enjoyed his work, boating, fishing, golfing, spending time at his river house in Welaka, FL and spending time with family and friends.
Douglas is survived by his wife Renee Speeler of Clearwater, FL, his children; Marguerite Lucas of Mandeville, LA, Mark Speeler of St. Petersburg, FL, Doug Speeler Jr of Madeira Beach, FL and Krystal Speeler of Seminole, FL, his grandchildren; Pauline Walker of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Paul Maiello Jr, Barbara and Lucas Speeler all of St. Petersburg, FL, Ocean Speeler of Madeira Beach, FL, Jeffrey Brown and Alec Dockree,of Seminole, FL and his great-grandchildren; Raffaele Maiello and Henry Litton, his brothers; Dennis Speeler and Clayton Speeler of St. Louis, MO, his sister; Margo Kidushim, of LaCanada, CA, several nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Speeler and William Speeler, his biological father Joe Page, his grandparents Katherine and Raymond Winther, and his brother Martin Speeler.
