Ed Hindson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2022.
Dr. Ed Hindson

Dr. Ed Hindson, 77, of Forest, Va., ran through the gates of heaven into the throne room of his Lord and Savior Saturday, July 2, 2022. Surrounded by his loving family, Ed passed from this life bound by time into eternal life with a hopeful smile on his face and his eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of his faith.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on December 21, 1944, he was the son of the late Edward James Hindson and Helen Snyder Hindson. In addition to his parents, his brother, Ronald James Hindson, preceded him in death.

Ed was the first in his family to hear the gospel and accept God's gift of salvation as a young boy at the age of 6. The rest of his family and succeeding generations followed his example in loving and knowing Jesus. Because of Christ's power at work in Ed, he changed the legacy of his family from godless to God-filled, from uneducated to educated, from fear to faith, and from hopelessness to unexplainable hope and expectation, anchored in the truth that he proclaimed boldly all over the world…that one day soon, The King is Coming!

Dr. Hindson was the Dean Emeritus of the School of Divinity at Liberty University and Distinguished Professor of Religion for over 35 years. He holds earned doctorates from Trinity Graduate School (Th.D.), Westminster Theological Seminary (D.Min.) and the University of South Africa (D.Phil.). He authored over 40 books, many about heaven and Bible prophecy. He also served as the Bible teacher on The King Is Coming telecast sponsored by the World Prophetic Ministry.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna Jean Hindson; two daughters, Linda Barrick and her husband Andy, and Christy Murphy and her husband, Jeff; one son, Jonathan Hindson and his wife, Amanda; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Barrick, Joshua Barrick and his wife Brooke, Allie Murphy, Ashley Murphy, JD Murphy, Evan Hindson and Fenn Hindson.

His family described Ed's passing as their highest act of worship, sending him from grace to glory while proclaiming the words that their "Papa Ed" used to close many of the books he wrote and echoing the final words of Scripture: "Come, Lord Jesus!"

A service celebrating his life and faith will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. (The service will be live-streamed and archived at watch.trbc.org).

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider: Knowing Jesus Ministries, Dr. Hindson's non-profit ministry that sends out his biblical resources and helps spread the gospel around the world! (P.O. Box 1335, Forest, VA 24551).

I met Ed Hindson when I attended Liberty in the late 1970s (before it was called Liberty), besides teaching Ed was taking courses at Westminster Seminary and kept a pretty busy schedule. It has been a joy to follow his career for the past 40-some years.

My most sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. Hindson. Such a wonderful Godly teacher and Christ-filled man. For many many years I have been enlightened by his teachings on TV, newsletters, books, pamphlets, and DVDs. He was a prolific teacher, reaching many to spread the Good News... the King is Coming!!! In your loss, and ours (his learners), we have the comfort of knowing he has met our King. I hope his family and friends take comfort in knowing the impact he has had on many lives for Jesus our Christ. 0

I do not believe I heard of Ed until Covid which opened to door to Jan Markell, JD Farag which had him as guest speaker .What a wonderful testimony and legacy. I have his latest book ( Future Glory) I was the first to accept Jesus in my family .But was up and down and in and out and unsure of my salvation .I hang on to God's word which says He will finish what He started in me. I'm going to be looking into the other books he has written. My prayers are with you and I re- watch his messages. God bless all of you. I'm going to visit the Ark in KY. I'm taking Ed's book with me with me . Love, your sister in Christ. Today is 7-27-2022.

I had Dr. Hindson as an online student at Liberty University. I absolutely loved his lectures. When he read from the Old Testament he would use different voices for each person in the Bible. It made learning fun!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May you find comfort in knowing that Dr. Hindson touched so many lives.

Tremendous loss for the world but absolute celebration in the presence of the Almighty! May his family and all close to Mr. Hindson know that we grieve for your loss but not as those who are without hope. It was a pleasure listening to him through out the years.
