Reverend C. Edwin "Ed" Pellett, 98, of the Otterbein SeniorLife Community in Lebanon, died Saturday October 29, 2022. Ed was born January 29, 1924, in Lake Wawasee Indiana, the son of Reverends Celia Austin and Darius Harold Pellett. Ed served in the Americal Division of the US Army from 1943-45, in the south Pacific and in Japan. After graduating from Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis), Ed met his future wife, Katharine, while a student at Bonebrake (now United Theological) Seminary in Dayton. Ed and Katharine were married by their fathers on September 28, 1951, in the Southern Hills EUB Church in what is now Kettering OH.
Ed and Katharine had four children: Marcia (Steve) Rothgeb of Fort Wayne IN, Rev. Karen Pellett of Lebanon OH, Dr. Philip (Marie) Pellett of Grosse Ile MI, and Scott (Mary-Ann) Pellett of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada; seven grandchildren: Aaron (Krista) Rothgeb of Ft Wayne IN, Nicholas (Jennifer) Rothgeb of Bath ME, and Joshua (Sara) Rothgeb of Ft Wayne IN, Jason (Leslie) Pellett Atlanta GA, Kelly (Tom) Giardina of Sandy UT, Rachel (Rev. Daniel) Skillman of Parma OH, and Levi Pellett of Lethbridge, Alberta Canada; great-grandchildren: Garrett and Jack Giardina, Juliette, Isabella and Lillian Rothgeb, Olivia Skillman, Makenna Hamilton, and many grandpets. Shortly before Katharine’s death a year and four days ago before his, Ed and Katharine celebrated their 70th anniversary with their children and their families.
As a pastor for nearly 40 years, Ed provided diligent pastoral care to several congregations in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Halker-Flege Post 69 in Reading OH.
Ed was an excellent musician, bringing his rich baritone voice to many choirs, and his baritone horn to many other musical events, including 25 years with the Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band, and multiple appearances at Tuba Christmas events throughout the region. A skilled woodworker and woodcarver, Ed created many beautiful carvings of animals, Christmas decorations, and items of devotion. Ed had a penchant for telling groan-inducing funny stories, which appears to be a genetically transmissible trait.
A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held in the Multipurpose Room (sanctuary) at Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community, 585 OH-741, Lebanon, OH 45036 on Wednesday November 2, 2022:

Rev Pellet was my minister at Trinity United Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio from second grade until seventh grade. I went to the same grade school (Kemp) as his son Phillip. He made a lasting impression on me as a child that has followed me into my adulthood. I have fond memories of religion class and remember him to be a kind and caring man. God bless his family. I am sure he will be missed.

Rev. Pellet was my pastor going through high school and college in Defiance Ohio. I have fond memories of him and his wife as I sang in the choir with Katherine. Great people! Heaven gained an angel.
