Eda Schmidt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2024.
Eda L. Schmidt passed away peacefully at home in her "Treehouse" on May 28, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Born on Halloween in 1956 to Marcus and Helen Schmidt in New Ulm, Minnesota, Eda had a lifelong passion for design and architecture, reflected in the beautiful home she created and shared with loved ones.

Eda's professional journey was marked by exceptional achievements and a dedication to excellence. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Minnesota in 1982 and furthered her expertise with a Certified Investment Management Analyst diploma from the Investment Management Consultant Association and the IMCA Certified Investment Management Analyst Program graduate degree from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2000. In 2006, she was recognized as a Certified Financial Planner by the CFP Board of Standards. Eda was an FINRA certified broker and Senior Vice President as a wealth management advisor for Wells Fargo Advisors.

Her career in financial planning was distinguished by her commitment to her clients' success. Known for her intelligence and resilience, Eda navigated and broke through numerous glass ceilings, establishing a client base built primarily on word of mouth due to her impeccable service and dedication.

Beyond her professional life, Eda was a lifelong advocate for physical fitness, completing seven marathons, and a dedicated volunteer, raising funds for various charitable organizations, including Open Arms of Minnesota. Her contributions to society extended to supporting people with HIV/AIDS and aiding children orphaned by the disease, reflecting her deep compassion and generosity.

Eda is survived by her mother, Helen Schmidt, former partner, Laura D'Ambrosio, siblings Amy Schmidt, Eve McAnallen (Tim), Matt Schmidt (Julie), Martin Schmidt (Julie), nieces and nephews Tom Kahler (Michelle), Allen, Lydia and Emily Hutcherson, Jordan Kim, Aaron and Sophia Schmidt, Parker and Dylan Schmidt, and great-nephews Frankie Hutcherson and Rowan Burns.

A celebration of Eda's life will be held on June 15, 2024, at 1 pm at the Treehouse. In lieu of flowers, family and friends request donations be made to a personal charity that has meaning to you. Eda supported several organizations for neglected and needy animals, in addition to public television or radio.

Eda's memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was loved beyond measure.

I was saddened to hear of Eda's passing. She was a force to be reckoned with. I recall her being a fierce competitor with regard to her personal fitness, and she helped me train for my first Twin Cities Marathon back in 2001. As Kris Stetter wrote...Laura and Eda's parties were the best!

Eda and I were partners for almost 15 years. Not married because back then you couldn't get married. Even though our relationship ended we remained in each other's lives. Losing your ex partner, is a complex kind of grief. I miss her.

I have many fun memories with Eda. It´s hard to pick one. Parties at her home filled with singing, music , laughter. We did a road-trip to Michigan with a group of friends that was a treasured memory. Playing softball together and supporting each other as teammates. She was a unique person with many talents.

I have great memories of paying softball with Eda in the mid to late 70's. Her big smile and laughter were infectious and I was truly impressed with her dedication to 100 sit-ups before going to bed. She was a supportive team member and great hustle. I extend warm wishes of ease and comfort as family and friends move through feeling the loss of a loved one.
