Edward E Arees

Edward A. Arees, Sudbury resident for 43 years died peacefully with his family at his side on February 12, 2011 at St. Patrick's Manor, Framingham following a long illness. He was 77 years old.
Ed was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and received his B.A. and M.S. degrees from City College of New York and then served four years in the United States Navy-two on the USS Intrepid and two in the Naval Reserves. He received a PhD in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He also did Post-Doctoral work at MIT in the field of Neuropathology.
Ed was a Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University for thirty years. He was also on the staff of Massachusetts General Hospital where he did Neuropathology research. After retiring from his academic career in 1994 he pursued his passion for photography. Ed's love of nature photography motivated him and his wife to travel extensively.
Ed was also an enthusiastic opera lover who never missed a performance when the Metropolitan Opera was in town. He was a man who loved to learn and through the years his endeavors included figure skating, woodworking and astronomy.
Ed leaves his beloved wife Jane (Ross) of 47 years, his son Stephen and his wife Li of Weston, CT, daughter Elizabeth Davis of Lexington, son Mark and his wife Jessica of Charlestown and three beautiful grandchildren - Emmet, Wesley and Katelyn Arees and his dear dog Brady.
Ed is also survived by his loving sister Gloria Zoda and her husband Nicholas of Nanuet, NY and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be celebrated at St. George Orthodox Church, 6 Atwood Avenue, Norwood, MA at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Burial immediately following at Milton Cemetery, 211 Centre Street, Milton, MA. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend.
