Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2024.
Edward Alan Ball, Jr, "Alan" age 91, of Baltimore, passed away on March 12, 2024. He was born on April 19, 1932 in Baltimore across from St Benedict's Church, where he was an altar boy and helped his father with maintenance at the church. He was a member of the Mount Saint Joseph varsity baseball team and was a standout player. After high school he played amateur baseball.

Alan served in the Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Alan began his career at AT&T, where he started installing telephone lines and later transitioned to become a teletype technician. He later retired from Nokia in 1990. In August of 1957 Alan married Mary Louise Martinelli and in 1965 they moved to Randallstown and were members of Holy Family Catholic Church. Alan was a long-time member of Patapsco Knights of Columbus Council, Catonsville.

Alan was actively involved with the Communication Workers of America. He was the Executive Vice President of union local 2101 and was also the Legislative Chairperson, where he would meet with Maryland State legislators on behalf of the union. After retirement and until his death, Alan was the Vice President of the retiree members chapter Union Local 2101.

In his free time, Alan enjoyed collecting coins, golfing and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and Baltimore Ravens. Over the years Alan enjoyed being a dog owner and family dog sitter. After retirement Alan enjoyed weeklong visits at his daughter's houses, visits by his son and Sunday dinners at his sister's house. Later in life, he enjoyed following his investments and watching his Roku TV.

Alan was a hard-working proud family man and is survived by his children, Patrick Alan Ball, Theresa Mary Ball, and Joan Marie Way, his sister Kathleen Cecelia Ball, and son-in-law Joseph Way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Ball, his father Edward Alan Ball, Sr, and his mother Cecelia Theresa Ball.

A Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Randallstown on March 21st at 11:15 am to honor and remember Al's life and legacy. Funeral service will be held afterwards at Baltimore National Cemetery.
