Edward Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2020.
April 1, 1946 October 5, 2020 Edward died peacefully on October 5, after a brief battle with sepsis. He was the father of Adrian Johnson and devoted husband to his wife Maureen Johnson of 17 years. Edward also leaves behind his stepdaughter Desiree and her two children, Ruby and A.J. Born in Toronto Ontario, Canada, and very proud of his family history, Ed was the son to an English-Norwegian farming family from Saskatchewan, with close genealogical ties to Mid-Western Great Plains Canadian and American settlers and natives. He grew up in Toronto and spent most of his youth reassembling junk motorcycles and sports cars with his father, but happened upon an unexpected friendship with a local Geochemist, which jumpstarted his varied and wide-ranging global career in Geology, Business and Marketing. He is credited with having led the first surveying crews in the early 1970's to map out the Fijian islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu in exploration for copper. Shortly thereafter as Advertising Director for Molson Breweries he helped launch the first Western Canadian brewery in Calgary, Alberta. Further opportunities in Marketing and Business saw him move on to the United States and then to Europe, where he capped his career with professorships at many prestigious schools such as CERAM Sophia Antipolis, University of South Monaco, Boston University Brussels, UC Berkeley and Orange County. Alongside his business career, he was a man of simple pleasures, yet a man of class! He traveled the world with a passion for foreign culture, art, and unique sporting automobiles, of which in 2017 he was awarded the Director's Award at the Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show. In his later years, Edward was devoted to his family and home in Southern California. He spent his days with his loving wife and attended car shows with his latest roadster of the moment. His friends and family always knew they could count on him for any kind of help, be it legal, mechanical, or just a hand. He was a man of all seasons, a loving husband, and wonderful friend with a fun-loving sense of humor! He will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him. Onwards Edward! It took me awhile to write this.... I cut Ed´s hair for over 20 years. He was a blast. Funny, smart, charismatic... he loved his wife, she was his best friend. He loved his son and his wife´s children and grandchildren. He was always busy getting his hands dirty either with his cars or things around the house. We loved and laughed exchanging stories about our lives. I had cut his hair just a week before he passed. I hadn´t seen him in a while and tried contacting him to no avail. So I googled him and found out the sad news. It´s always shocking news and I´ll truly miss our friendship. He was a good egg.

A year without Fast Eddie in my life. A year of daily disbelief he is gone. A year of daily sadness he is not there to speak and have fun with. A year of missing our deep friendship. He will be missed by me forever.

I had the pleasure of calling Ed Johnson my closest friend for nearly two decades. He and his beautiful Maureen were frequent traveling and social companions to me and my wife. We spent countless meals, concerts, Euchre card games, and general gallivanting with Ed & Mo. He was brilliant, gregarious, wise and genuinely concerned for the people close to him. My blessing was being included among them. RIP my BFF.
