NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Edward Lee Jordan Sr., our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his daughter Amy's home with family by his side Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
Service: 12:30 p.m. Monday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, Colleyville. Interment will immediately follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.
Edward was born to Charles Walker Jordan, Jr of Farmington, New Mexico and Marjorie Claire Humphries Smith of Las Vegas, New Mexico, in El Centro, California, on July 9, 1941; while his father was stationed with the U.S. Border Patrol. He attended elementary school in Salinas, CA; and Jr High & High Schools in San Lorenzo (Hayward) and Bladensburg/Hyattsville, MD. He attended the University of Maryland, was a member of Beta Chi Fraternity, and while working as an assistant manager at a local pharmacy he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Rutherford. He was drafted in 1963 and they were married at the 1st Methodist Church on Dec 23, 1963. After completing basic training he was ordered to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, (Artillery) for Pershing Missile training and he and Carol rented an apartment in Lawton, OK. He was at the top of his class and was appointed as his training company's Training Officer; as a Specialist E-4, normally a lieutenant's job. The Company rotated to an operational Pershing Missile Battalion in Germany and Carol waited in Maryland. When he returned he worked for Carol's uncle in a Shell station. He then worked as a bookkeeper for an insurance broker, and was later employed by the 1st Bank of Maryland as a branch manager for several years. He changed careers again and became a Hot Shoppes Restaurant Manager; often working 18 hour days. After his father passed in 1973, he bought the Shell station on East Lancaster Blvd, in Ft Worth, and moved his family from Maryland. He and Carol also opened a laundromat. He operated the service station for over 16 years, but when the "oil patch" dried up in the late 1980's they sold out, and Ed started fresh as an Allstate Insurance agent. He soon had his own agency on Davis Blvd. in North Richland Hills. He had many friends in Allstate and Sears, and never met a stranger. Many of them would stop by the office to visit, and Ed enjoyed visiting with them all. He found out about his cancer when he had surgery on his gall bladder, but took this challange with a strong will to conquer it. He was given a 5 percent chance to live five years ago, and he proved that he could beat the odds. The doctors at MD Anderson, Houston called him "the Miracle Man." He was an active member of Davis Memorial Methodist Church and often told his family about the sermons he heard each week. He was a great father who stood by his children no matter the circumstances.
Edward was preceded in death by his son, Edward Lee (Eddie) Jordan Jr., and his parents.
Survivors: Edward leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Carol; his daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Lopez (Joe), and Amy Jordan-Moore (Chris); and five grandchildren, Kristin Jordan; Weston and Adam Lopez; and Mia and Ava Jordan-Moore.
