EDWARD LA FORTE Obituary
Beloved husband, father and grandfather
Edward "Eddie" LaForte, beloved husband of Phyllis Palermo LaForte, passed peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 24, surrounded by his wife and six children at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan after a long illness.
Eddie graduated from New Dorp High School in 1962 and married the love of his life, Phyllis Palermo, in 1964. The couple had been married for 51 years and had six children.
Eddie enjoyed golfing and loved opera. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Eddie was loved by many and it was always said, "he would give you the shirt off his back," and was generous to a fault.
He was the beloved father of four sons, Joseph LaForte, Edward LaForte Jr., John LaForte and Anthony (Buddy) LaForte, and two daughters, Doria Compoccia and Phyllis Fagone; beloved father-in-law of Mario Fagone, Jessica Andersen LaForte, Jennifer Orelli LaForte and Anthony Compoccia; cherished and loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren, Joseph, Edward, Filomena, Kristen, Gianna, Julius, Edward Jr., Robert, Margeaux, and Isabella LaForte, John Anthony and Joseph Compoccia, Mario (MJ) and Filomena Fagone and Portia LaForte, and one great-grandchild, Ava Monroe Rogers.
He was the beloved son of the late Edith and Joseph LaForte Sr. He was the dear brother of the late Joseph W. LaForte Jr., June Russo and Irene Compoccia, and is survived by his two sisters, Linda Ernst and Josephine Lamatina, and his brother, James (Jimmy) LaForte, and also by many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Services to be held at Scarpaci Funeral Home on Monday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 with a service at the funeral home at 8 p.m.

Dearest Phyllis and Family,
My condolences to all of you. Eddie will surely be missed. So many memories of Eddie and all of you are so clear in my mind. These memories are filled with love laughter and affection. Eddie always treated me as if I was his daughter, he was always looking out for me. He was one of the most selfless and courageous men I have ever known.
