Edward "Ned" Victor Ross, MD, died peacefully at his Houston home on June 26, 2024. He was 93 years old.
He was born on February 10, 1931, in Picayune, MS, and was the second youngest of 6 children born to Tom and Lenore Ross.
Ned graduated from Picayune High school in 1949, where he finished in the top 5 percent of his class and lettered in 4 sports. He was the center for their state champion football team his senior year.
After graduating from high school, he attended Tulane University for 8 years where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and received a chemistry degree followed by a medical degree. He graduated from medical school in 1957. While at Tulane, he met the love of his life, Mary Lynn Rohrer of New Orleans. LA. They were married on June 5, 1954. His love and devotion to her have been a role model for his family. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 5th of this year.
After finishing medical school and receiving the "intern of the year" award, he did general practice in Yazoo City for 5 years, where 2 of their children were born. He then went on to specialize in Radiology in New Orleans, where their third child was born. He practiced radiology for 8 years on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and then 10 years in
Amory, MS, followed by 5 years in New Roads, LA. He finished his career practicing and teaching at LSU medical school in New Orleans for 12 years. He retired in 2000. He and Mary Lynn moved to
Houston, TX in 2010 to be able to spend more time with their children, grandchildren and now their great grandchildren.
Ned was one of the hardest working, nicest, kindest and most humble men you would ever meet. He never met a stranger and loved to talk and laugh with people. He especially loved a good joke. He had a warm smile and generous heart. He always had lots of energy for his grandchildren and loved to pamper them. He was also an avid Tulane sports fan.
Ned was a devout Catholic who began as an altar boy when in high school, and then a lector and eucharistic minister in his later years. His family never missed Sunday Mass no matter where they were. He passed this devotion on to his family.
Ned is survived by his wife Mary Lynn, sons Edward "Vic" Ross Jr., MD, (wife Beth), Joseph Peyton Ross (wife Rhett), and his daughter Suzanne Kelly (husband Barry), grandsons Matthew Ross Kelly (wife Mallory), Jeffrey Anderson Kelly (wife Kate), Joseph Peyton Ross Jr., Cole Ross, and granddaughters Kaitlyn Ross, Corinne Kelly, Ruby Ross, MD, Violet Ross and LuLu Ross and great grandsons Wells Kelly, Miles Kelly, Brooks Kelly and great granddaughters Harper Kelly and Collins Kelly.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Natalie Tillett and her team of caregivers who have supported Ned and Mary Lynn for many years.
Fr. James Murphy, CSB, led a funeral service in Houston on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Private burial will take place in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the
