Edward Shuler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2024.
Edward Shuler, age 91, passed away on August 2, 2024. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Edward was born on April 4, 1933 to Frank and Dorothy Shuler in Dover, New Jersey. He grew up and lived in Dover for 40+ years where he worked at the Shuler Tire Service, the family business that he and his brother William Shuler operated in Dover. It was during this time that he was introduced to Sandra Roy, his future wife, by a mutual friend who worked alongside Sandy teaching at the College of Saint Elizabeth. Shortly after getting married in 1971, they purchased an old dairy farm that used to belong to Sandy's family in Stillwater, New Jersey. They would spend the next 25+ years raising a family and reinventing the property as a premier equestrian facility. Once their children moved on, Ed and Sandy purchased a motorhome and took to the road as snowbirds traveling up and down the east coast visiting friends, family, and seeing the sites along the way. They eventually settled down again on the east coast of Florida 8 years ago though they still spent their summers visiting family and favorite locations for several more years.

Edward loved to travel with family and friends, visiting Vermont to go skiing, camping on Assateague/Chincoteague islands, water skiing on Lake Hopatcong, trips to Long Beach Island, and his favorite, boating and fishing on Lake Ontario. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. He had a real passion for documenting everything with the camera he always carried, capturing priceless candid moments. Edward was also well known for his mechanical skills and his ability to fix anything, especially if it had a motor. No matter how good something worked or ran he always saw opportunities for improvement and spent countless hours tinkering. This along with his passion to help others and share what he knew created long and lasting friendships everywhere he went.

More than anything Edward was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement no matter what challenges were being faced. He loved sharing stories, socializing, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially liked it when he could share time with those he cared about while out on the water in one of the many boats that he owned over the years.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, their children, Keith and Kim (David) and their children, Sarah and Ethan, his daughter Terri (Rob) from his first marriage and her children, Amber and Calli, as well as niece Melissa (Paul), and nephews Bill (Ulla) and Eric (Deanie). Per his wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes scattered at his favorite place. In lieu of a formal funeral service, I invite you to celebrate Ed's memory by visiting your favorite lake or river and know that he will be with us all in spirit. His memory and the life lessons he shared will be cherished by all who knew him.
