Einar Ingolf Odegard

ODEGARD Einar Ingolf February 13, 1932 - January 22, 2009 It is with great sadness that our family announces Einar's passing. He was predeceased by his father Bjarni, mother Maria, eldest son Arnt (Vicki), and his mother-in-law Gunhild (Erik). He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Gun; son Bert (Caroline); daughter Ann (Rob); grandchildren Richard (Tina), Jason (Mami), Stephanie, Marc-Andre, Chris, Megan, Aleena, Robbie; great-grandchildren James, Christopher, Selena, Mattias, Erika; many nieces and nephews; and extended family in BC, Sweden, and Norway. Einar was born in Alesund, Norway, and grew up in Stockholm, Sweden. He graduated from trade school as an electrician at 18. In 1952, he married Gun and later that year they were delighted by the arrival of their first child, Arnt. From 1953 to 1954, he completed his mandatory military service. Then in 1956, he and his family immigrated to Vancouver and shortly thereafter welcomed the birth of second son, Bert. Not long after, he settled in North Vancouver and eventually bought his Langworthy home in 1958. In 1966, he was thrilled by the arrival of his daughter, Ann. He worked as a journeyman electrician (IBEW 213) throughout BC, and worked as far away as the Canary Islands on an observatory. He was a keen competitor in many sports, especially European Team Handball, ice hockey, floor hockey, and soccer. As an avid outdoors person, he loved to hunt, fish, and camp and shared these passions with family and friends. He will be remembered for his playfulness, his willingness to always lend a hand, and the great memories he gave to us. A celebration of Einar's life will be held at the North Shore Winter Club in North Vancouver at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 31, 2009. All are welcome.
