Eleanor Hawkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 10, 2024.
Eleanor "Ellie" Harriet Hawkins gracefully departed this world on April 27, 2024, at the remarkable age of 95 surrounded by her loving family at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. Ellie was born in Chicago, IL; she was the youngest of four siblings. Upon graduating high school, Ellie married her first husband, William Lasky, Sr., and they had three children: Nancy, William, and Steven. Ellie and Bill Sr. enjoyed many years together, and though they eventually divorced, they remained fond of one another.

Ellie took great pride in being a mother and homemaker, but when her children were grown, she began working for Illinois Bell. She found that she loved working and remained with Illinois Bell for 9 years. When she moved to Florida, she began working for The Doctor's Clinic in Vero Beach as a Phone Receptionist. She remained at The Doctor's Clinic until she retired. Ellie met and married her second husband, Chuck Musson. They were married for 4 years before he succumbed to cancer. Eventually, Ellie married Robert Hawkins, to whom she remained married for 15 years until his passing.

Ellie found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in her kitchen and garden. She loved making delicious baked treats for her family and friends. She also poured time and energy into tending the beautiful flowers and plants in her yard and home. Ellie nurtured her Christian faith, and she believed in the power of giving back. She dedicated many years to her church as a Christ Care Leader and counted church tithes every Monday morning with her husband, Bob. She also volunteered at the local soup kitchen and at local elementary schools giving away backpacks to students in need.

Amidst her many passions, she always, always made time for family. She adored her children and her many grandchildren. She attended every family event to which she was invited and loved to brag about the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and friends. Ellie was a social butterfly and just as beautiful as one. She took pride in her appearance and dressed impeccably. She was a lovely woman inside and out and will always be remembered for her unwavering love, her joyful laughter, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and included.

Ellie is survived by her children, Nancy, Bill, and Steven; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life for Ellie will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. A reception will immediately follow at the church.

I was very blessed to have such a loving mother-in-law. For 20 years, she spent nearly every Sunday with us, whether it be at church service and brunch or Sunday dinners at our house. She got along well with my mother, Kathy, and with my entire family. She was not only Grammy to my children, but also to my sister“s children. She loved participating in all family celebrations from vacations to holidays to simple Sunday dinners. She was well loved and will be dearly missed.
