Aberdeen - Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Gorder, 83, of Aberdeen died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at her residence. Her funeral will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2003 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Avenue N.E., Aberdeen with Rev. Ronald Jensen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen with Military Graveside Rites being conducted by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-11:30 a.m. Monday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 South Main St., Aberdeen and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or The Alzheimer's Association. Elizabeth Jane Stott was born October 14, 1919, to Harry and Blanche (Collins) Stott at Lewes, Delaware. She was raised in the Delaware Bay area. She attended the University of Delaware and received a degree in teaching. In 1943 she enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1946. She met her husband, Robert Gorder, while they were in the Navy. They were married on November 16, 1945 at Brunswick, Me. They moved back to Aberdeen where they made their home. She raised her family and then attended Northern State College and received her degree in Library Science. In 1969 she opened Courtney's Books and Things which she managed for 25 years. Her husband died in 1980. Elizabeth continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death. Elizabeth was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Bethlehem Library Circle. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter B.H. and the American Booksellers Association. Next to her family, she loved books and reading. She also enjoyed playing tennis, walking, and being with friends and family. Survivors include one son, Scott (Elizabeth) Gorder of Rapid City, S.D.; three daughters, Comfort Hauck of Ansbach, Germany, Mary Groth (Dan Mahar) of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Pamela (Bill) Gese of Aberdeen, S.D.; fifteen grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Colin Hauck, Jimmy Hauck, Luther Groth, Billy Gese, Alex Gese, Jackson Gese, Luke Gorder, Andrew Gorder and Chris Gorder. Honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters, Sarah O'Malia, Emily Shaving, Katie Hauck, Elizabeth Bashore, Laura Gese and Allison Gorder. Betty was deeply loved, and her gentle spirit and quiet faith in Christ will be greatly missed.

To Betty's Family,

Betty was such a wonderful lady. I knew her through the Book Store. She radiated such a glow. Seeing and talking to her, was always the frosting on the cake when purchasing a book. You were all truly blessed. I will never forget her. My prayers are with you.
