Elizabeth (Lane) Nicholson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2018.
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 7th 2018, in her ninety-fourth year, at Saint Luke's Place, Cambridge.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jack Nicholson for sixty-one years. She is lovingly survived by her children Gayle (David) Hobson, Ron (Kerry), Pat, Tom (Sue) Nicholson, grandchildren Sarah (Bill) Meadus, Shannon, Karen (Chris) Patterson, Andrew (Shannon) Hobson, Amanda, Chris (Annie), Jennifer (Vince) Nicholson-Chow, Jessica Hobson, Derek (Angelina), and great-grandchildren; Ashlie, Sabrina, Luke, Zachary, Austin, Caden, Matthias, Joshua, Isla and Sebastian. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth (McGuire) Lane, her sisters Loretto (Hugh) Deady and Margaret (Keith) Smith and brothers Andrew, Mervin (Nellie), Bill (Anne), Joe (Helena), Charlie and Lou (Dorothy) Lane. She was the last surviving member of her family. She is also survived by Jack's sister Barbara Alexander.

Born ninety-three years ago in Tuckersmith Township, Huron County, Ontario. She lived a rural life on the Mill Road just outside of Seaforth on a farm, where she enjoyed music by her violin- and piano-playing parents. After Loretto Academy in Stratford, she worked as a bookkeeper in Seaforth and managed the cash office for Sears Canada, on Fairway Road. She loved sewing, art, baking and tending her flower gardens, along with the large vegetable garden tended with her husband Jack. She enjoyed travelling to hockey & soccer games involving her sons and grandsons, to dance and skating performances involving her granddaughters, through Canada and the US with family and friends and annual beach and fishing vacations.

Special thanks to Dr. Albrecht and all of the wonderful health care workers on 'A Main' at Saint Luke's Place, who have become our extended family.

Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Clements Church, Preston, Cambridge on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM with reception to follow in the church hall. In Elizabeth's kitchen, the kettle was always on, ready to make tea for any visitors coming through the door. In her memory, consider brightening someone's day by sharing a pot of tea with them.
