A Power-House of Love and Joy

A radiant soul, Elizabeth Mary Monnone was born to Alfred and Francis Monnone on January 20, 1934, in Union City, NJ. She transitioned to heaven on Feb. 2nd, 2025, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Atlantic Beach. She is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, husband, Thomas F. Neville, the second love of her life, Richard Oullette, and her granddaughter, Carly Joy Amodeo.

She graduated St. Michael's High School in Union City. In her late forties, she graduated UNF with a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education. A little over a decade later, she earned her Master of Arts. She was employed by both the Catholic Diocese and Duval County Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher for students with behavioral and emotional difficulties.

Liz was known for her great love, a sense of humor, adventurous zest for life, and her attitude of gratitude! She profoundly impacted individuals. Many consider her as their adopted sister, mother or grandmother.

Liz had a special gift of hospitality, throwing scores of memorable parties and special celebrations at her home with its picturesque backyard. She also held special prayer times when friends were hurting.

Liz leaves a legacy of volunteer service to many organizations. She spent years assisting students and educators in and outside of the classroom. She volunteered with BEAM, Beaches Hospital Auxiliary, and as a poll watcher. On Monday mornings, she sorted food for the food insecure at St. John's Catholic Church where she was a member since 1974 and taught CCD. These are just a few examples of her loving heart in action.

Liz had a core value of being present, showing up for those she loved. She took great delight and honor in having raised six children. She consistently attended events to support her 13 grandchildren's sports, performances, and choral concerts. She was a long- time, enthusiastic fan of Fletcher High School football and UNF basketball. She was a season ticket holder for The Jacksonville Symphony.

She will be greatly missed by her children Peggy Neville, Tommy (Sheila) Neville, Barbara (Ron) Summers, Patrick (Kelly) Neville, Elizabeth (Peter) Lewin, and Deborah (Dean) Lewis. Her surviving 12 grandchildren consider her a true rock star. She also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by, Thomas F. Neville her husband and partner of 45 years. They created a beautiful family setting a culture of family, faith, charity and giving. She is also preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, the second love of her life, Richard Oullette, and her granddaughter Carly Joy Amodeo. She will be remembered fondly for many things including generously paying for a yearly family vacation to Melbourne, FL to watch mamma sea turtles lay eggs and babies hatch.

A memorial/prayer vigil will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Rd. Atlantic Beach FL 32233 on Thursday, February 20th from 6-8pm. A Mass in celebration of her life will also be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday, February 21st at 11am. A reception will be held in the church hall after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the organization Liz spent much time helping. St. John's Emergency Assistance Ministry (EAM) 2400 Mayport Rd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233. It provides assistance for food, utilities and other emergencies. Liz Neville was one of my favorite people. She was certainly one of my favorite students at the University of North Florida. After raising her six children, she decided to become a teacher. Not only did she earn her bachelors degree but she got a masters degree about 10 years later. We all loved her in the UNF special ed department. Liz was also a wonderfully generous person. She seemed to have an overflow of love and kindness. Her sense of humor was priceless. I´m sending lots of love to all of her family. Lynne Raiser
