Elizabeth SIMMONS

SIMMONS, Elizabeth S. "Betty" Elizabeth (Betty) S. Simmons, age 89, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, passed Friday, September 23, 2016. Born Hope McLaughlin in Kansas City, Missouri, adopted and renamed Mary Elizabeth Smith by Dr. and Mrs. Clifton H. Smith. Betty was a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and later received a master degree from Georgia State University. She taught history at Tucker and Redan High Schools in Dekalb County, Georgia. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur. Betty played tennis and belonged to 2 teams until 87 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband Roger Lee Simmons. Survivors include her children Julie Simmons of Tucker, Clifton H. Simmons (Darlene) of Dawsonville, Georgia, Lisa S. Bryan (Michael) of Barboursville, Virginia, Kirk E. Simmons (Terri) of Metter, Georgia, Mark A. Simmons of Perry, Georgia; grandchildren Melissa Stripling (David), Sean Bryan, Jason Bryan (Elspeth), Amy Simmons, Emily Simmons, Evan Simmons (Jenna), Tucker Simmons, Julia Simmons; great-grandchildren Shelby Stripling, Carson Stripling. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1st, at 10 a.m. in the Nave of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or any other charity of your choosing.
