Elizabeth Stitzel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2013.
Elizabeth "Betty" Stitzel (nee Stevens) died peacefully in Burlington, Vermont on Jan. 2, 2013.
She was born in Wysox Township, Pa., on June 22, 1923, moving a few years later to Camp Hill, Pa. where she met her future husband, Carl Stitzel, and graduated from Camp Hill High School.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa. In November 1945 she married Carl following his return from Europe where he had served as a pilot in the US Army Air Corps 8th Air Force.
Betty and Carl had three children: Victor who was killed while on active duty with the US Army in Korea in 1973; Steven who lives with his wife in Colchester, Vt.; and Karen who lives in Florida.
Carl returned to full-time active military duty as a pilot with the U.S. Air force in 1948. Until Carl's retirement in 1973, Betty and her family moved frequently around the United States; Betty re-established the family's home at each new location.
Following Carl's retirement, Betty and Carl lived in Florida enjoying frequent cruises and travel throughout the Caribbean, South America and Europe. Carl died in 2000 and four years later Betty moved to Burlington, Vt., to be near Steven. As a resident of Cathedral Square, she made many friends, including those at the nearby Hilton Hotel where she visited regularly each afternoon.
Among the many things for which Betty will be remembered are her radiant smile and her love of her family.
She is survived by her son, Steven; daughter, Karen; daughter-in-law, Patti Page; and two granddaughters, Dr. Shannon Stitzel and Elizabeth Stitzel.
A burial service will be held at the Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill at 11:00AM on April 13, 2013. www.pennlive.com/obits

Dear Stephen, I don't think we ever met but I grew up next door to Betty and John and their parents. Betty was older than me and my brothers but she was such a sweet and kind person. I remember when she and Carl got married, Betty was such a beautiful bride and Carl was such a handsome hero. I remember praying for him during the war and was so glad when he came back safe. I am so sad to hear that she has died. My best wishes to you and your family. Jane Taylor 1960 Bellaire St , Denver Co 80220
