Mrs. Emily E. McGinnis, 94, of Frederick, died on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of the late Hugh R. McGinnis.

Born in Greene County, Virginia on November 23, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Gruver Lloyd and Serena Ann Meadows.

Mrs. McGinnis had worked as a presser at Sagners Clothing Factory. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, working in her garden and with flowers.

She was a former member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren and a member Thurmont Church of the Brethren.

Surviving her are five children, James L. Lowe and wife Sandy, of Frederick, Wayne D. Lowe and wife Barbara, of Woodsboro, Betty A. Holt and husband Wayne, of Middletown, Robert P. McGinnis and wife Sue, of Frederick, and David N. McGinnis and wife Jenny, of Frederick, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Rodger L. Lowe, three brothers and two sisters.

She will also be remembered by a special family friend, Christine Cooper. The family also wants to extend a thank you to Hospice and her caregivers, Patty and Rachel.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, December 9, 2013, in the Key Memorial Chapel within the main gate of the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market Street, Frederick. Interment will follow the service. Pastor Steve Lowe, her grandson, will officiate. Her grandsons will serve as her pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Frederick County Humane Society, 5712-D Industry Lane, Frederick, MD 21704.

Emily was a truly special person. I will always treasure my memories of the trips David and I took with her, especially her visit with us in Montana. I will miss her. I send my deepest condolences to the entire family Mc Ginnis family.

Starting with I was just thinking about you last week before i got the new may sound cliche . Becaues this is the time of year when I would be in mrs.Emily kitchen sampling the holiday goodies while I wait for Davey to get a ride to school .and the warm welcome i always got and riding by seeing you in you graden left me with memories I hold in my heart forever love always
