Mrs. Emily Hortense King Pitts DARLINGTON - Funeral service for Mrs. Emily Hortense King Pitts of Darlington will be 3:00 p. m. Sunday, December 9, 2012 in Mitchell-Josey Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Darlington Memorial Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., Darlington. Mrs. Pitts, 108, died Wednesday, December 5th in a Florence hospice house. She was born in Darlington a daughter of the late Whittimore M. and Marie L. King. She was the widow of John S. Pitts. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Washington DC. She lived and worked in New York and later in Philadelphia, PA. Retiring from the PA Department of Social Services. She was a member of Tindley Temple United Methodist Church, Philadelphia where she served as secretary- treasurer and pianist over a span of over 50 years. Survivors include: 2 nieces, Emily Stanley of Atlanta and Maria Ravennah-Hodson of Hawaii; 1 nephew, Yasin Abdul-Hakim (her caregiver) of Darling-ton, 2 great nieces, Marie and Takimah; 5 great nephews: Emile, Garrett, Jay, Mario and Mustafa, 5 great great nieces and 10 great great nephews. The family is receiving friends at the home of a great niece, Takimah Hawkins of 2006 Anderson Farm Road, Darlington.
