Born January 19, 1953
On Monday, January 29, 2018 after battling cancer for 16 years, Eraldo passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. For 40 years, he was the beloved husband to Anne Colombi (nee Gable). Together they raised Joseph (Cassandra) and James (Alisha). Born in Italy, the son of Anita and the late, Giuseppe Colombi, the oldest brother of Tom (Judy) and Rob (Andrea). Al will be sadly missed by his family, friends and especially his second family at Kiddie Kobbler. A special 'Thank you' to Dr. Christine Canil, Dr. Elana Condon and Fatima for all your care over the years. Visitation at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Sunday, February 4 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, February 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 427 Booth Street. Private burial will take place at a later date. In memoriam donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. "One shoe can change your life."

Al has been fitting my son with shoes for upwards of 13 years. Sean is a special little boy and all I had to do was walk in and tell Al what I was looking for and he would bring out shoes to try on Sean. Then he would always have a little something to give him. Al was a very special man and we will miss him greatly. My sincere condolences to his family. My you find peace and strength in all the outpouring of love.

I'm sorry to hear about Aldo and I'll miss our little chats whenever we met up on the street. He faced his health challenges with great courage. I always thought it was funny how my father and Aldo were neighbours and ended up in the hospital in rooms next to each other.

Al was far and above one of the most positive people we have had the pleasure of knowing, even throughout all his health issues, he was an inspiration for me through mine. Any time he entered a room he brought a light and presence that will surely be missed. When I think of him, I think of his humour first and foremost and truly meant "thank you so much for coming" each time I saw him. To the Columbi family,
Our family have been customers at the store for over 23 years and Al was always so kind and caring to his customers. It was always such a pleasure to visit the store and experience the kind of service that is so unique nowadays. I was very saddened to hear this news, as I had assumed Al was enjoying a well-deserved retirement when I did not see him at the store on my visits. I am sure I am only one of 100's of customers who raised their kids with the help of the fabulous Kiddie Kobbler staff and will miss Mr. Columbi's smile forevermore. I walked past the store the other day and it was closed for the day.... I stopped took a deep breath and welled up with tears. Al was.... everything to everyone. I met him when I was just a snotty 15 yr old and he gave my friend a job. He was there for me when I was a young mom in need of guidance, he's been there for me through my marriage, second pregnancy, divorce, and always gave me the greatest hug, an ear to listen and a smile to warm your heart. I will miss him dearly.

Dearest Anne, Joey and Jimmy and families....Eraldo was one of a kind. Always positive, funny, respectful and caring, he touched many lives in such meaningful ways. We will always think of him with that great smile on his handsome face and his joking around. His love of Anne and his pride in his boys was so evident. Over the past few years it was an honour to get to know Al. His kindness & concern for others really impressed me - whether it be in the local community, or to his staff & customers, or his business partners - he always cared about others first. Please accept my sincere condolences, I was so saddened to hear of Al's passing. I haven't seen him for many years but have thought of him often. I always hoped I would get a chance to tell him how much I respected him and how his kindness impacted the course of my life. 21 years ago he offered a scared, pregnant teenager a job when no one else would give her a chance. That job and Al's support and guidance saved my life and everything I have today I owe to him. You were lucky to have such a wonderful man in your life. And I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to know him and that my daughters had a great start in life thanks to his kindness and that of the extended Kobbler family.

Dear Anne and Colombi family. I am so sorry for the loss of Al. I know I do not need to tell you what Al meant to me. He was much more than a friend and business partner. He was family. I will never forget him and I will always cherish the time I spent with him and will miss his phone calls as well as his one liners that he had many of. Love you Paisan. (that is what we called each other) I am sorry that I did not get to have that one last drink with him with his beloved Polenta. The Colombi family is in mine, my wife's and kids prayers. The only comfort I get out of this is that he is no longer suffering. And as he once told me, he will be fitting people in heaven now with their shoes.
