Mr. Koon was born August 23, 1928, in Pomaria to the late Eusebius Holland and Lula Mae Bowers Koon. He was a graduate of Pomaria High School and was a master machinist, having retired from Shakespeare. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a former church councilman, a member of Little Mountain Masonic Lodge and the Mid-Carolina Lions Club. He was a former volunteer fireman and had a lifelong love for farming.
Surviving are his sons, Carroll Evans (Lynette) Koon of Irmo, and Michael Eric “Mike” Koon of Pomaria; a daughter, Kathy (Chris) Brown of Pomaria; a sister, Lessie Long of Pomaria; grandchildren, Kim Holland, Kayla Fallaw, Kacee Fallaw and Carson Koon and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Koon was predeceased by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Koon, and brothers, Lolan Koon, Eldredge Koon and Rupert Koon.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 2496 S.C. Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.
