I'm sorry to only now hear of the passing of Erik. Although I never had the honor to talk to him personally, I often came across his work while researching the Kunders/Conard/Cunard families. He was a great help to my late father Webster Hayes Cunard Jr. and his sisters Lydia (Cunard) Bloom and Elmira (Cunard) Mearkle while compiling our piece of the family puzzle. Hopefully those of us who remain can carry on his legacy and unite all the clans of the Thones Kunders family.
Godspeed Erik and deepest sympathy to your family.

I just found out about Erik's recent passing, and I would like to share my condolences with his family and his many friends.
Besides being of inestimable assistance to me as I was researching my Kunders/Conard lines, he was a valued friend as well. I am so glad that we got to meet in the summer of 2001, as I wanted to thank him in person for all of the help he had provided me over the years.
During my wife's illness and death in 2000, Erik was always there with a quick note to try to help us get through our ordeal, and he always managed to say the right thing to help me get through it. Upon her death, Erik sent me the following tombstone inscription which I think sums up how I feel:
A light from our household is gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our hearts
That never will be filled
Rest in Peace Erik Conard

Aloha
In 2002 my wife, Roberta & I had the pleasure of spending several delightful hours with Erik. We had corresponded for sometime about our mutual Siron, Bruner, Fleisher & Hiner ancestors. If any others are pursuing these lines, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Bob
and I have fond memories of discussing genealogy with Erik. He was
always willing to share what he knew; and he certainly was a great
researcher and story teller. We will miss him.

Erk Conard was like no other in the time that I knew him since 1965.
He was lost to me and we once again found each other.
While I was not a member of his beloved Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, he was a friend of all Social Greek Organizations and any organization that he was a member of.
He influenced so very many lives and will be sorely lost to all of us.
My dearest and deepest condolences go out to his wife Grace and all of the members of his family whether by blood, or by just knowing him.
Erik was a man for all seasons. God Bless You Erik.
Rest well.
I will always miss you.

Erik will be greatly missed for his extensive knowledge that he was
ever willing to share with a healthy dose of his crusty personality. Good night and good morning Erik; peace and gratitude to the family that cared for you.

Erik Conard was very kind to share his research with me many years ago. His contribution to knowledge about the Germantown descendants and ancestors was enormous. I will miss him.

We all have lost one of the "good guys". I too will miss Erik not only for his linguistics and genealogy expertise but his wry sense of humor. We had telephone conversations a few times and shared that humor. His son Warren tells me the family has received condolences from all over the world. Who would have known? Cheers to Erik for his generosity. My condolences to his family.

I am so sad that Erik is no longer with us. He was such a help to me in my genealogy research. As a descendant of Thones Kunders, I am proud to be Erik's "distant cousin".

I have also been saddened by Erik's death. I never met him, but he and I always shared a genealogical bond. His mentor, Athelin Luzier, and my aunt/mentor, Dorothy Streeper, were friends and co-horts in the genealogy of the original thirteen families. Erik had a love for Dorothy and had visited her. He and I often exchanged messages about the work those two had done, and how the genealogical field was expanding today. I knew that he had some serious health issues, but his death took me completely by surprise. I will miss his gruffness, his cynicism, his constant little quips on the "Original 13" list. Deep inside he was a softy when it came to helping each person on the list, in one way or another. He knew his stuff. I even enjoyed the bantering between Gene and Erik. With Erik gone now, and with the death of Iris Jones just a few months ago, we have lost two of the people with the most knowledge in our group. Our hearts go out to Erik's family. Just know that he was loved and appreciated.

Erik cared about people--and none more than his beloved fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon. As a charter member of the TKE chapter at Pittsburg State University for which he was once advisor, I remember his passion for people and for getting things done. He will be missed by family, friends and the international fraternity.

I am most saddened by the death of Erik. He was not a close friend, but we corresponded many years back on genealogical data, as I was then, and am still, a member of Original-13@rootsweb mailing list. His personal efforts to date have helped more people in learning of their ancestral pasts, than anyone else I know. His gentle nature earned him the respect of all. My prayers are for the family left behind, both natural, and us in genealogy.

The genealogical community truly mourns the passing of Erik Conard.
Over the years, he had collected so much information on all of the Kunders lines of descent that he was able, in one e-mail, to detail the connections from the person I was researching, Joy CONARD of South Carolina, right back to Thones KUNDERS of Pennsylvania and Germany.
It would have taken me years to figure out the name changes along the way, especially with the family moving from PA to MD to VA to NC to SC. And Erik "solved" it for me in, literally, a matter of minutes. I will miss his willingness to help, but most of all, I will miss his tart commentary on Life in general.

My sincere condolences to the family of Erik Conard. We "met" online while pursuing our genealogies through the ORIGINAL-13 mailing list. Odd. It was not until I read his Obit. that I realized he had KS ties. I have lived for over thirty years in Lawrence, KS, spending most of them in the English Dept. of the Univ. of KS.
Erik was one of the most helpful gentlemen among the genealogy community.
I am so sorry for your loss.
