Ernest G. Jacklin
1937 ~ 2018
Ernest G. Jacklin, known to many as "Coach Ernie", age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 18, 2018. Ernie was born to Earl G. and Inez Oaks Jacklin on November 30, 1937, in Heber City Utah. He grew up in Daniels, and attended Wasatch High School, where he wrestled and played football, and served as Sr. Class President. He then went on to Brigham Young University, earning his Bachelors degree and teaching certificate, and met the love of his life, Carolyn Bentley. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1962.
Coach Jacklin began his teaching and coaching career in Park City, Utah, teaching both 5th grade and coaching at Park City High, earning his 1st Region Championship in Football in 1961. He moved to North Summit High school from 1962 to 1968, earning his 1st State Championship in Football. After spending a year at Viewmont High School, he went on to finish his coaching career from 1970 to 1984 at Roy High School. While he did coach many sports there, he led his football teams to several Region Championships, and in 1981, while coaching his son Wade, won the only State Championship in Football in the history of Roy High. He was named Utah High School Coach of the Year in 1981-1982. He is credited by sports historians for being the first coach to bring the I-formation to Utah High School Football. He was also inducted into the Utah Sports Hall Of Fame. Many of his students honored him as both their coach and their math teacher. "Mr. Jacklin" focused on teaching his students leadership and character, which is why so many successful students and athletes have passed through the doors of his classroom.
Ernie also loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and gardening, and raising his prized raspberries year after year. He was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in the Sunday School Presidency, as a teacher, in several Bishoprics and as finance clerk in his wards in Coalville, Bountiful and Roy, Utah. He and his beloved wife Carolyn served as temple ordinance workers for 4 years in the Ogden, Utah Temple, and served a Church mission in the New Hampshire-Manchester Mission in 2008-2009.
Ernest is the father of six children: Wade (Bonnie) Jacklin of West Haven, Utah; Laura (Jeff) Guthrie of Eden, Utah; Hollie (Randy) Thompson of West Warren, Utah; Keith (Jamie) Jacklin of South Willard, Utah; Linda (George) Burns, of Hampton, Virginia; and Michael (Chyleen) Jacklin, of Eagle Mountain, Utah. He was Grandpa to 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother John Jacklin, and three sisters: Monta Durrant, Elva Hamblin, and Wilma Reynolds.
A Viewing will be held Friday, November 23, 2018 from 6-8 pm. at the Roy Midland Stake Center, 3649 West 4800 South, Roy, Utah. Funeral Services will take place at the same location on Saturday, November 24, 2018 with a viewing from 9-10:30 am, and the funeral following at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery at 3pm located at 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
The family is grateful to the staff at Peachtree Assisted Living for their loving care, and Dawn Quada, Hospice Nurse, Katelyn Nye, CNA and family friend Melanie McMilan.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to support Coach Jacklin's love of sports by donating to the Weber School District Foundation - Roy High Athletics (Football). Condolences may be left at www.MemorialUtah.com.

Dear Jacklin family,
Sorry to learn of Ernest's passing. Wonderful memories come immediately to my mind as I think about growing up in with the Jacklins in Daniels. I always enjoyed being with Ernest, hunting, fishing in the bottoms, cruising main in high school, and most of all playing football in the cow pastures and being coached by his brother-in-law Bob Hamblin. We even double dated a few times. Those precious memories are incomparable. May the love of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ comfort you in the days ahead.
