Ledyard - Etta (Ricker) Jenks of Ledyard, Conn., 86, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 6, 2018.

She is survived by her son Craig Jenks and wife (Shelly) of Denver, Colo. and son Thomas Jenks and wife (Kathryn) of Horseshoe Bay, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward Ricker, husband Harry and her niece Georgia Lewis. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Susan (Scott) Davy, Yvonne (Kevin) Schmidt, Todd (Christy) Ricker and Kim Lewis in the Mandan-Bismarck, North Dakota area.

Etta was born Feb. 27, 1932 in Mandan, N.D. She graduated from Mandan High School, Bismarck Junior College, Valley City Teachers College in North Dakota as well as from the University of R.I.

Etta taught kindergarten in North Dakota and Minnesota. However, most of her career was spent teaching kindergarten in Ledyard Public Schools. She retired in 1992.

Mrs. Jenks enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling and helping generations of little people along the way. She loved her dogs, especially her Great Danes, working outside in the yard, volunteering at MOPS and supporting the local library. She was an avid UCONN Husky basketball fan.

She was a 60 year member of the P.E.O, Sisterhood. The P.E.O. sisterhood helps women with their education from the college level to the advanced programs to further their education.

A local Memorial Service will be held at the Ledyard Congregational Church, 772 Colonel Ledyard Hwy. at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 The Dinoto Funeral Home in Mystic, Conn. is handling arrangements. For additional information contact www.dinotofuneral.com

A private Memorial service will be held in Mandan, N.D. in the summer of 2019, where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in Mandan, N.D.

No flowers please. Donations be made to the Cottey College, 1000 West Austin, Nevada, MO 64772, her favorite P.E.O. project.

To the family, you have my sincere condolences. When someone falls asleep in death (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10) the memories we have of them become our most precious treasure. May those memories comfort you as well as Gods promise at John 6:40.

Tom and Craig, I am so sorry for your loss of your mother. She was a lovely lady. My brother Tom was telling me tonight how she was Stephen's kindergarten teacher and what a wonderful person she was. I am glad I got to know your family.
