Eugene Weeks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2009.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eugene J. Weeks on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at his home in San Pedro, California. Eugene was surrounded by his cherished loved ones as he journeyed to be with his Almighty Father in Heaven. Born August 7, 1927, Eugene was a San Pedro native. He attended San Pedro High School; enlisted in the Merchant Marines and proudly served his country for several years; worked in his youth as a delivery boy for both Union Ice Company and Webber Bread; owned and operated several gas stations, developed and co-managed the Weeks Brothers Stock Farm; worked as an ILWU Clerk and Dispatcher; as well as performed many charitable services for his faith community during his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Benevolent Order of Elk, San Pedro Chamber of Commerce, Italian Catholic Federation and ILWU Local 13 Union. Eugene had many interests including his love for Notre Dame Football, horse racing handicapping, slot machines, painting, cooking and gardening. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him well. Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; brother, Richard; five (5) children; two (2) sons-in-law; one (1) daughter-in-law; eight (8) grandchildren and one (1) great-grandchild. A vigil service will be held Monday, November 16, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church. Funeral services will be conducted at Mary Star of the Sea Parish on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Private Graveside burial will immediately follow at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to a memorial scholarship fund in his honor at Mary Star of the Sea High School. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

Grandpa,

The thought of not being able to see you anymore or hug you anymore crushes me everyday. The fact that I got to have you as my grandpa and now have memories of such a great man and inspiration will make me feel blessed, lucky and thankful for the rest of my life. I love you with all my heart and I know when our little girl comes out you will be watching over her always. I love you and grandma so very much!

Rest in Peace

Dear Dad,

Words cannot express the way I feel.
All I know is that the greatest gift God gave me was You!
You are the Best and always will be
that to me. You will be greatly missed. Just know everytime I smile or laugh it's because of you. You will be forever in my heart.
Sleep well darling Dad.

Dear Carolyn,Ida,JoAnn,Gina,Maryann, and Billy,

I can't begin to express my sympathy regarding the loss of your father. I have always and will forever love your family. I recall all the many good times we spent at your house when we were kids. It will be strange not to see your father outside sweeping or walking down to church. He was a really nice man and I know you will all miss him deeply. May the peace of Christ be with him and may he share in the glory of God the Father in Heaven.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dear father.
Though I did not know him, he sounds like such a wonderful man who loved his family with all his heart. I am sure he is very proud of you and knows how much you love him. Please find some comfort in knowing that though he has passed, his love will continue to shine on you, your little BMW, and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
