Evelyn Viola Watkins
Mason, Michigan
Evelyn, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2011. She was born on December 12, 1917, in Brant Township, Saginaw County to Charles and Catherine Bucholz. Evelyn is survived by her sister Dorothy Mitas of St. Charles, Michigan, son Joe H. (Jackie) Watkins of Mason, daughter Elaine (Bob) Dafoe of Clatskanie, Oregon, grandson Joe S. Watkins and great grandson Joe P. Watkins both of Mason, great granddaughter Jenni Watkins and great-great granddaughter Aspen Watkins of Telluride, Colorado, granddaughter Cherie Dafoe of Kennewick, Washington, granddaughter Sarah Dafoe of Cocolalla, Idaho, great granddaughter Rachel Sharp, great grandsons Michael, Elijah, and Axel Sharp of Kennewick, Washington, great granddaughter Melissa (Nick) Davis and great-great granddaughter Makayla Davis of Kootenai, Idaho, great granddaughters Melanie, Mallory, Megan and Mara Brogoitti, and great grandson Nicholas Brogoitti of Cocolalla, Idaho.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe R. Watkins, brothers Roy, Ike, Carl, Earl, and John, sisters Myrtle, Leona, Mildred and Margie, half-brother Edward and half sister Mary.
Evelyn raised her family to enjoy music, art, growing a garden, and being kind to others. She was a 4-H leader encouraging youngsters to enjoy growing flowers and vegetables. She became an avid golfer often seeking out new golf courses to tame. Later in life she learned to paint with oils and watercolor and produced many original oil paintings on canvas which she sold, loaned, and donated. Her passion at every stage of her life was "working in the yard" to enjoy a near weed-free lawn and large colorful flowers. "Doesn't the soil smell wonderful", she would often say. She enjoyed sewing and produced a wedding gown, afghans, decorative pillows, and draperies for her home and assisted friends with draperies for their homes. She also enjoyed watching the birds, wild turkeys and deer from her living room window. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Mason, MI.

I got to know Evelyn through Hometown hospice. I was her aide for at least a year. I looked forward to are visits. She always had a smile. hug and a kiss for me. She was one of the sweetest people that I have ever meet. It saddens my heart that I wont see her smiling face but i also know she is an angel in heaven now watching over us. My deepest sympothy goes out to her family and may God be your strength in this time.
