Fay Juanita Meyers

Meyers, Fay Juanita (Daniels) 102 11/27/1907 01/18/2010 Fay Juanita (Daniels) Meyers passed away Jan. 18, 2010, at age 102. Fay was born Nov. 27, 1907, in a small Portland hospital to John and Louise Daniels. She was christened Fay Juanita, joining a 2-year-old sister, Irene. Fay's education began at the Albina Homestead School in Portland. In October 1920 the Daniels family moved to a farm in the rural area of Kinton in Washington County. There Fay completed grammar school, graduated from high school and attended Girls Polytechnic School and business school in Portland. In 1933 Fay met Norman Meyers and they were married June 17 of the same year. Fay worked as a telephone operator in Scholls, and then worked for the Beaverton School District and the Hayes Feed and Seed Store on the Portland waterfront. In 1937 Fay and Norman purchased 40 acres of land on Bull Mountain and they became farmers growing grain, but later planted walnut and filbert orchards in addition to various varieties of berries. Some of the berry crops were processed by local canneries, but they primarily operated as a U-pick farm. Fay and Norman joined the Kinton Grange where they enjoyed many evenings of dancing. She farmed all her life and said that's what kept her young. After her husband died, she continued farming for 10 more years. On June 10, 2005, at the age of 97, Fay moved to Summerfield Retirement Estates to begin a well-deserved independent retirement where she shared her experiences of over 100 years and her love for the rural life with other residents. There will be a service at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, in Young's Funeral Home, Tigard. Fay Meyers will be laid to rest beside her husband in Crescent Grove Cemetery.
