Floyd Thomas Talbert

Floyd Thomas Talbert, 82, of Brookeland, TX passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.  Born July 21, 1935 in Timpson, Texas to Charles "Charlie" and Susan "Susie" Talbert.

He retired from the paper mill in Evadale, Texas in 1997, after 41 years of service where he was an operator on recovery boilers.  For many years Floyd was an avid Harley Davidson rider and owned Talbert's Cycle Shop in Kirbyville.  During that time he and his oldest son James each built for themselves a Harley Davidson Evolution motorcycle from the ground up.  They cranked on the first kick.

He and his wife of 63 years, Dorris Crane Talbert built their "cabin on the lake" on Lake Sam Rayburn where they lived since his retirement.  He loved to fish and travel.  The two of them ventured on many cruises and road trips all over the world.  It was a great time listening to both of them tell the stories of the adventures they had.

He was a prankster, a strict disciplinarian, a teacher to his kids, grand kids, great grandkids. a provider, and a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife Dorris Crane Talbert; son, Robert Talbert and wife Sarah of Brookeland; two daughters, Rachel Solly of Bleakwood, TX and Vickie Miller of Buna, TX.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Talbert, Sarah Susan Smart Talbert, brothers, David and Grady Talbert, sister Hazel Verdine, son, James Talbert, and son-in-law Joe Solly.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 25 from 5-8 pm at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville.  Services will be held Saturday, August 26, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery.
