Frances Koppel Obituary

Frances Zimmerman Koppel, 97, of Benton, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. Born October 22, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois to Harris and Rebecca Zimmerman, she was a member of Congregation House of Israel.

Mrs. Koppel moved to Benton in 1942 where she and her husband opened and operated Jay’s Department Store until their retirement in 1972. She was a founding member of the Junior Fortnightly Club, a twenty year volunteer at Saline Memorial Hospital and a charter member of Long Hills Women’s Golf Association.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jake Koppel; her parents, and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Hal and Sue Koppel of Hot Springs and Bob and Ianne Koppel of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Wendy Kohn of Portland, Oregon, Jodi Keats and husband Lindsay, of Wellington, New Zealand, Mark Koppel of Chicago, Illinois, David Koppel of Atlanta, Georgia and Leslie Koppel of Atlanta, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Ben Keats of Wellington, New Zealand and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 16 at Congregation House of Israel, 300 Quapaw, Hot Springs, with Rabbi Vicki Hollander officiating. Pallbearers will be Ron DAlessio, Dr. Stuart Fleischner, Bob Gartenberg, Richard Hughes, Doug Kidd, Steven Kirsch and Dr. David Stewart. Graveside services will be at Jewish Rest Cemetery.

The family will also receive friends on Monday, May 17, 2004 from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Arkansas.
