Frances Siegel Obituary

Ms. Frances Jeanne Siegel, 85, of Marietta, GA passed away March 19, 2014 due to a respiratory ailment. Born April 29, 1928 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Edith and Leon Wineberg. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Siegel; her husband, Robert Bowen; and her grandsons, Nader Parman II and Matthew Staneart. Born and raised in the South Side of Chicago, Frances received her BS in Liberal Arts from Illinois Institute of Technology and her Masters in Education Administration from Perdue University. She was an elementary school teacher for 15 years in the Chicago suburb of Calumet Park before moving to Southern California in 1974 where she served as a school principal. After her years as an educator, Frances went to work in the trucking industry where she became President of a trucking company. She was recognized professionally for her role as president and owner of a minority-owned business. In 2003, Frances moved to Marietta, GA to live with her daughter, Sherri. Frances loved boating, reading, and talking about politics. She loved the theater and the arts and was sharp as a tack to the very end. Frances was a long-term active member of the American Association of University Women. She was also an active volunteer serving Temple Kol Emeth in Marietta. Frances was a Woman of Valor; an inspiring mother; a role model for independent, educated women; a great friend; and a second mother to many. Survivors include her children, Beth Jeanne Pickering (Marc) of Irvine, CA, Lynn Michele Siegel (Jeff Canfield) of Fruitvale, ID, Laurence Edward Siegel of Chicago, IL, Sherri Sue Parman (Nader, Sr.) of Marietta, GA, Dana Paulette Siegel of Seattle, WA, and Devra Rachelle Staneart (Bruce) of Portland, OR; the children of Norman Siegel, Stephanie Siegel and Errol Siegel (Chris), both of Austin, TX; the children of Robert Bowen, Evie Bramlette (Hank) of Chicago, IL and Steven Bowen (Sho) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Cheryl Joy Cox (Charlie) of Orlando, FL, Kathryn Rose Bowen (Eric) of Nampa, ID, Annie Joy Canfield of Caldwell, ID, William Clark Canfield of Fruitvale, ID, and Alexander Robert Parman of Marietta, GA; great-grandchildren, Quentin Wilde Bowen and Canela Eyre Bowen, both of Nampa, ID; cousins, Leba Rose Miro and Jerry Chavkin, both of Los Angeles, CA, and Rod Shar of South FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Memorial services were held on March 23, 2014 at Temple Kol Emeth with Rabbi Steven Lebow, Rabbi Erin Boxt, and Cantor Blake Singer officiating. Shiva was held at the home of Sherri Parman in Marietta.
