Frank Schwalm Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2011.
Frank Lee Schwalm, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 6, 2011. He was born in Galveston, Texas on July 12, 1919, to Frank Lee Sr. and Bernice Schwalm.
Frank was preceded in death by both of his parents, three sisters and beloved wife, Frances Schwalm.
Frank was a one-of-a-kind individual. He grew up during The Depression and earned a living as a Western Union delivery boy in the early 1930s. He quit school to help support his Mother and sisters, but his lack of education didn't deter him from becoming a success in life. He proudly served his country during WWII, in the United States Navy, and was stationed in the Pacific Theater and participated in General Mac Arthur's triumphant return to the Philippines. After the war, he became a welder and joined Pipefitter's Union Local 211. During the next 60-plus years Frank built a business out a small motel called the Cabana and through acquiring fixer-upper houses and turning them into rental properties. Frank was involved in leadership positions in both his Pipefitter's Local and the El Mina Shrine. He was a member of Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriner fraternal organizations for almost 70 years. Frank loved to dance and was a regular at the VFW Halls in Dickinson and Houston.
Frank is survived by his children, Frank Lee Schwalm III (grandson Christian and granddaughter Deborah), James Schwalm (his wife Diane and granddaughter Jenna), and Mark Schwalm (his wife Rhonda; grandsons Talon and Mason; granddaughters Cassidy and Logan); and four great-grandchildren; along with numerous other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at Forest Park East Chapel, on Friday, January 14, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.

To the family of Frank Schwalm - My sincerest condolences at the loss of your father. I so remember your family and I pray that God's strength and love will comfort you during this time. My mom and dad (Joe and Elzie Rourke) so loved and enjoyed their time spent with your mom and dad. I know he felt the same, I saw him crying at my mom's funeral two years ago. Bless them all, up at the banquet table feasting, and then dancing of course !! Please contact me as I have something to give you that I believe you will cherish. Hand written letters from your dad to my mom and my dad during war times. I wanted to get them to Frank but I didn't get back to Galveston in the last year with them. Warm Regards, Claudia Rourke-Rumlow ([email protected])
