Franklin Eugene Reed

Franklin Eugene Reed was born August 2, 1939 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He passed peacefully at his home in Oklahoma City, on May 20, 2022.

Frank moved to Oklahoma City when he was 3 years old and graduated from Classen High School in 1958. He met his devoted wife, Verlie (Keith) Reed in 1958 at the movies, where they had been set up by her sister and his friend. They were partners in life for 63 years.

Frank received many high school awards in Math and English all the way to his excellent attendance. He loved school and had a passion for learning his entire life. Each morning he would wake up, grab some coffee and complete the daily Cryptoquote puzzle. He always kept up on current events, Cardinals baseball, OU sports and anything family and friends were interested in so that he could always carry on a conversation.

Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1967 where he was a field mechanic. The skills he learned stuck with him through life, and his innate ability to fix anything granted him the nickname Sheeny. Frank had many other nicknames throughout his life, Frank, Frankie, Eugene, Gene, Cannonball, Papa, and Dad. Whichever name you knew him by you knew his kind spirit.

Frank worked for The Daily Oklahoman from the age of 11 until he retired at the age of 72. He got up every morning at 4 AM and never complained. He enjoyed having his kids help him on his route and the all the people he met and worked with every day.

He was a member of a bowling league with his work buddies and friends. These guys bowled together every Tuesday for over 20 years. Once he knew one of his kids was good enough at Math to keep score, he would take them to the bowling alley with him.

Frank is survived by his wife, Verlie Reed, Brother and Sister in law, Gayle and Doris Ballard, Brother, Travis Reed, his Children, Dennis (Shawn) Reed, Valerie (Derek) Goodin, Angela (Rock) Holland, Jean Price, Matthew (Eunice) Reed, Grandchildren, Chris (Monica) Reed, Caroline Price, Reed Goodin, Sydney Goodin, Birdie Price, Ethan Holland, Isabel Reed and Gabriel Reed, Great Grandchild Ella and Asher Reed, and his many beloved nieces and nephews.

Finally, Frank loved to play the lottery. He always wanted to win the "Big" one, but he knew he won by seeing his children graduate from college and start families of their own and to love all his Grandkids.

He will be missed by all.

Memorial mass will be held this Friday May 27, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Eugene's Catholic Church, 2400 W Hefner Rd., Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
