Fred Gordon Bostick, 78, Red Bay, Ala., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Red Bay Hospital after an extended illness.Mr. Bostick was a retired businessman and was chairman emeritus of Sunshine Mills, a company he co-founded in 1947 with his father-in-law, Omer J. Bullen. He was a decorated veteran of World War II serving in the 9th Army in France, Belgium and Germany, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Red Bay.He was an enthusiastic and loyal member of the Democratic Party. Mr. Bostick, an avid golfer, was a charter member of and was instrumental in the construction and development of the Redmont Country Club.The funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay. Officiating at the service were Rev. Mike Sparks and Rev. Doug Hemphill. Burial was in Red Bay City Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Deaton Funeral Home.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Bostick; children, Harriet Daniel and husband, James, John Bostick and wife, Pam, Alan Bostick and wife, Margoth, and Jill Bostick; eight grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Sparks and husband, the Rev. Mike Sparks; two nephews, Brent and Blake Sparks.Pallbearers were Billy Stidham, Addis Deaton, Gib Childers, Bobby Nelson, Ricky Dees and Larry Creekmore. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Taylor, Troy James, Tommy Nelson, Lee Nixon, Clyne Bates and Phillip Boyd.In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be sent to First United Methodist Church of Red Bay or a charity of your choice.
