WEST DENNIS — Fred Stokes, 88, of West Dennis, and formerly of Boonton, N.J, passed from this life Thursday, August 12, 2010, in Epoch of Harwich after a short illness. He was born and lived the majority of his time in New Jersey. He was the son of the late Lillian Steineker Stokes.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Young Stokes, and the father of the late Elizabeth Stokes DiEduardo. His grandson, Patrick DiEduardo also predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter Ann Stokes Petrou of Yarmouthport, and her husband Andrew, as well as their son, Stephen of Roslindale. Mr. Stokes also has grandsons in New Jersey, Anthony, Daniel, and Michael DiEduardo as well as great grandchildren.

Mr. Stokes proudly served his country in the United States Navy During World War II. After his discharge, he moved with his family from Rhode Island to New Jersey where he became very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was instrumental in the development of many programs and camps for the Scouts, all on a volunteer basis. He was employed for many years by Boonton Molding Company. Fred was a great fan of the N.Y. Giants and the N.Y. Yankees, and loved the West Dennis Beach.

Ann and Andrew would like to thank the loving staff at Epoch of Harwich for the wonderful care and kindness they showed to Fred during the final months of his life.

A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 30, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel, Summer St., Yarmouthport.
