Frederick Charles Nicholson, 98, of Nazareth, formerly of Mackeyville, PA and Enterprise, AL, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, December 27, 2022, at Alexandria Manor, Nazareth. He was the husband of the late Helen J. (Natali) Nicholson who passed this last August. Born in Mackeyville, Clinton County, PA, he was the son of the late William O., Sr. and Helen (Hayes) Nicholson.

He served in Germany during WWII, was trained as mountain soldier, earned the Master Parachutist Badge, and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was then accepted for Army Flight Training at Fort Sill, OK. Graduating in 1954, he went on to serve as a fixed wing and rotary wing aviator at various postings in the United States, Europe and Korea. Flying both maintenance test pilot and aerial combat missions during two tours in Vietnam, including during the Tet Offensive in 1968, Frederick was awarded six Air Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm Device, in addition to numerous other awards. He was qualified in over 25 different airframes during his military career and was a Master Army Aviator. Frederick retired from the U.S. Army in 1975 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He transitioned to civilian life and was employed as a financial loan officer at Fort Rucker National Bank for over 10 years, retiring in 1985. Frederick was a proud member of the Army Aviation Association of America, Vietnam Veterans of America, the Otter and Caribou Association, the Kiwanis Club of Mill Hall, PA and a member of the Rotary Club.
