Gail Stites, 110, of Moulton, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Milo and Myrtle (Tissue) Foster on Dec. 6, 1899 near Moravia. She attended Brush Country School in Appanoose County.
On Oct. 25, 1924, Gail was united in marriage to Raymond Stites. She was a homemaker and attended Moulton Christian Church in Moulton. One of her favorite pastimes was quilting. She quilted many quilts for herself and her family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Raymond Stites; an infant son; a step-son, Ronald Stites; granddaughter, Jolene Curtis; and sisters, Amy Wilson and May Main.
Gail is survived by: son, Raymond Stites, Jr. and his wife, Wilma of Charles City; daughters, Mable Corder of Moulton, Vivian Manning and her husband, Curtis of Ottumwa, Jennie Lee Grimm and her husband, Gene of Selah, Wash.; step-daughter, Norma Daughtrey of St. Cloud, Fla.; sister, Josephine Lindley of Centerville; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton with her great-grandson, Jason Corder and the Rev. Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will follow at the Hilltown Cemetery south of Moulton. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 1-8 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Hilltown Cemetery and left or mailed to the funeral home. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home of Moulton is caring for Gail and her family. Condolences can be sent at: schmidtfamilyfuneralhome.com.
