Gary Taylor Memoriam

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7, 2023.
Taylor, Gary
Gary Lynn Taylor, a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend, entered this world in Lansing, Michigan, in December 1950, born to the loving home of the Reverend Melvin and Eulia (Walker) Taylor. On November 25, 2023, surrounded by his cherished family, Gary embarked on his final journey.
Gary's professional path led him to a distinguished career with the Michigan Department of Transportation. Over the years, he wore various hats, from programmer and systems analyst to a dedicated security specialist, ultimately retiring as a respected software developer in 2002. Despite the demands of his full-time job, Gary's thirst for knowledge knew no bounds. He earned an associate's degree from Lansing Community College and pursued higher education at Michigan State University.
But beyond his impressive professional accomplishments, Gary Taylor will be forever etched in our hearts as a kind and generous soul. He had an unparalleled ability to find humor and strength in life's ever-unfolding events.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his adoring wife of 46 years, Rossi Ray-Taylor, and their two sons, Mathis and Marshall (along with his loving daughter-in-law, Amber). He is also fondly remembered by his sister, Jeanne (Theron) Kersey, and his brothers Vern (Deb) and David (Dianne), as well as a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and kindness.
In honor of Gary's memory, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 2 pm at Friendship Baptist Church in Lansing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Gary Taylor's name to one of the following organizations, reflecting his commitment to making a difference in the world:
- African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County (https://www.aachm.org/donate)
- Student Advocacy Center of Michigan (https://www.studentadvocacycenter.org/donate/)
- Ann Arbor Hospice (https://arborhospice.org/donate/)
- The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Disease Foundation (https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout)
Gary's life was a testament to love, laughter, and the enduring power of a compassionate heart. His memory will forever shine brightly in our lives, a guiding light of inspiration and warmth.

Gary. You were a wonderful, dear friend and neighbor as we grew up as young blokes in Lansing. We share special memories and adventures that still makes me smile. But, above all, you were a singularly splendid person that shared so much to this world. The love that you created for all who knew you will forever endure. I will miss you my dear brother. Thank you for sharing the adventure with me. Much, much love to you Rossi, and to your entire family.
