George Benz Obituary
Goodyear - On December 24, 2020, the world unexpectedly lost George Benz, 78, of Goodyear, Arizona. George was an accomplished general and vascular surgeon of over 29 years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was honorably discharged as a USAF Major, formerly serving at Tyndall AF Base in Panama City, Florida. A graduate of LaSalle College in Philadelphia and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, he was previously on staff at the Forbes Regional Medical Center and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was an avid golfer, well-known for his kitchen prowess and his collection of single malts, and his undying love for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins; he also served as a Marshall for the Fiesta Bowl Parade for a decade.
He was the beloved husband of Joanne Benz, devoted father of Jeffrey Benz (Jiuzhou Qiao), Jennifer Beckemeyer (Robert), and Julie Benz (Richard Orosco); loving grandfather to Christopher and Austin Benz, Robert and Tatum Beckemeyer, and Maggie Qiao; brother of Edward ( late Barbara) Benz, Joseph (Heidi) Benz, Dr. Henry (Carol) Benz, Trudy (John) Biddle, William (Sharon) Benz, Brenda Benz, James (Sue) Benz, and Dr. Thomas (Renee) Benz; brother-in-law of James (Marilyn) Seemiller and John (Barbara) Seemiller; and uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews.
A memorial ceremony will be arranged in Pittsburgh by the immediate family at a later date in the Spring, 2021.
