George Bradbury Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2006.
Bradbury Sr., George Franklin (95)
Passed away April 1, 2006. Born on a farm near Coffeyville, Kansas on March 15, 1911 and an 82-year resident of Los Angeles. A pioneer in the mobile catering industry, he will be remembered by many in that business whose careers and fortunes were aided by his assistance and leadership. Among those roles were his positions as member and chairman of the Los Angles County Food Sanitation Advisory Committee and chairman emeritus of the Mobile Caterers Association. He began work for the Avalon Lunch Box Company in 1928 and continued as an employee or principal owner for over 70 years until his reluctant retirement in 2000. He was very proud of his "continuity of employment".He was equally proud of his hobby. As a quarter-horse breeder, race-horse owner, cattle rancher and rodeo cowboy, he was never happier than when he was saddled up on the back of a horse. His later years were spent enjoying trail rides with Los Caballeros on Catalina Island, Los Rancheros Vistadores near Santa Barbara and Los Desert Caballeros of Wickenburg, Arizona, as well as being an honorary member of the "Happy Hoofers", a women's riding group of Rolling Hills. He was a gold-card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and of the Empty Saddle Club of Palos Verdes. Other memberships included the Masonic Lodge, Al Malaikah Shriners, Elks Lodge and Footprinters of Los Angeles.Mr. Bradbury was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Bradbury; and by son, Robert Bradbury. He is survived by his children, Judy (Scotty McTaggart) Wagner of Lake Arrowhead, George (Susan) Bradbury Jr. of San Pedro, Glory (David) Page of Ventura; daughter-in-law, Marilynn Bradbury of Sherman Oaks; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the mortuary chapel, with interment to follow in Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Habitat For Humanity or a charity of your choosing in his memory will be appreciated by the family. George was one of my sponsors for membership at the Empty Saddle Club. He thought he was too old and insignificant to be effective -what a joke! He was the most beloved of all at the Club and I was so honored that he agreed to sponsor me. He was always the voice of reason in some often heated discussions.

What a class act George was. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. I have many memories from The Empty Saddle Club involving George.
