George Cole, M.D. Obituary
Dr. Cole was retired after a long career as an OB/GYN in Fayetteville. He was one of the co-founders of Parkhill Clinic and served as both Chief of Staff and Chief of OB/GYN service at Washington Regional Medical Center. He also served on the board of the Razorback Foundation, Inc., the National Board of Ducks Unlimited, as well as a Commissioner for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. He was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife; Jeanne Cole, one daughter; Jordan Henry of Little Rock, AR, three sons; Brad Cole and wife Marcie of Conway, AR, Jeff Cole and wife Carolyn of Dallas, TX, Dr. Andrew Cole and wife Beverly of Conway, AR, one stepson; Rob Whitfield of Fayetteville, AR, and six grandchildren; Chelsea Cole, Elizabeth Cole, Jackson Cole, Kegan Cole, Austin Cole, and Madison Cole.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Fayetteville with a reception following the service for family and friends. Private burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

I loved Dr. Cole so much and am so saddened to hear of his passing. He delivered my son and played an integral role in my care and my daughters care after she was born. We had some complications, and I don't think I would have survived that difficult time without him. He was without a doubt one of the kindest most generous and loving doctors this world has ever known. I am blessed to have known him and he will forever hold a special place in my heart.

What a great loving and compassionate man Dr. Cole was. He delivered my first child in 2004! He was so calm and sweet during that hard time. This community will not be the same since we have lost such a wonderful man! I loved going to all my appointments, I loved seeing him and he always had a unique way of making you feel like YOU were his only patient. I saw him in Dec and he was still so full of life! I have so many wonderful memories of Dr. Cole and that is something no one can take away from me! He will be loved and missed but will live in our hearts forever! What a pleasure to have known this great doctor who possessed interpersonal skills that can't be taught. We were honored to have him deliver our beautiful daughter in 2004 and my wife is so thankful that she was under his care for well over 20 years. What a blessing he was to so many people -- as I read through the guestbook entries I found all my thoughts and memories of him echoed in the words of others. He was truly a wonderful and caring doctor and always such a joy to see out and about - he always said hello. He delivered our first child and I will never forget him calmly asking the nurse to order him some ribs for dinner -- right in the middle of the delivery! We have always laughed about that. He can never be replaced. You should know how proud he was of all of you -- I remember him speaking of his family nearly every time I saw him for a visit. Oh how I will miss you, Dr. Cole! I was devastated to hear the news of your passing. You were my doctor for 20 years and although you weren't able to deliver my firstborn son in 2003 as hoped, you were there to bring my baby boy into the world in 2008! You were a true southern gentleman with an undeniable charm. I loved each and every visit with you, because you made me feel as if I was the only patient you had! You always listened with such care to my long list of concerns and always assured me that you weren't going to let anything happen to me. I always told you that you were the best doctor around and that you could never be replaced. There will never be another one like you, and I'll never be blessed with the same care I had with you. I am so sad to hear of Dr. Cole's passing. He was my doctor for 20 years and delivered two of our babies. Our second child died at a month old and he was so very kind and compassionate. He cried with me at my 6 week post check up. He always seemed more of a father figure to me than my doctor. I saw him in November and he was excited to learn my daughter and his granddaughter were in the same sorority pledge class. I truly loved Dr. Cole and feel so blessed to have had him in my life! He will be greatly missed! May God comfort and bless his family!

Dr. Cole delivered my husband in 1969 and his brother in 1971. I am so thankful that I was able to have Dr. Cole as my ob/gyn AND that he delivered both of our daughters in 1997 & 2000. I loved his Southern drawl, his quick wit and his endless hilarious stories that put you at ease--especially during the most tense moments of labor & delivery!! Dr.Cole was my doctor for 43 years. He called me a baby having a baby. Later he saved my life twice over. My son called him George Robert, Rob and my son were friends and it took me a while to learn it was Dr. Cole. He always asked where his boy was, cause my son has been in air force for 23 years. My husband and I would like to send condolelences to your family at this time of loss. Dr. Cole delivered our first child in 1978 and our third child in 1984. We have fond memories of how he held both of them and stood proudly with us holding them for pictures. When he deliverd our third son he beamed when he showed him to us and said, you have another good one, and he ask us what we were going to name him, we said, we haven't decided yet but we are thinking about Bradley, and he said, I think that is a good choice I have a son named Brad. So, that kind of confirmed our choice and that is what we named him. Dr. Cole was a wonderful doctor!

I can't begin to express how sad I am to hear of George Robert's death. I was his patient for 40 years. He was so caring and took all the time needed to address my "long list" of concerns at my appointment. I understood early on why I was waiting in the waiting room for over an hour for my appointment. We had a standing joke that he was never there for me when I delivered my two children or needed emergency surgery. He was always a shift away! We had many friends in common and would catch up on them during my appointment. He was unique in that we could share jokes that made the nurses blush! Since I had been a patient for so long, I would ask him to please let me know if he ever planned on retiring. He told me as long as he enjoyed delivering babies and could stand up, he had no plans to quit! He can never be replaced but will always be remembered.

I went to Fayetteville High School with George Robert. His class 1954 and mine1955. He was a standout back then, always this down to earth popular young man with a magnetic personality and NEVER so full of himself. Easy to laugh, with a great sense of humor, laughing as hard at himself as with you. He was sure to succeed and that he did, leaving a lifetime of memories for many.

Dr Cole delivered my son in the summer of 1992. He had been at the hospital as long or even longer than we were. He commented that we where the last and he was looking for some well deserved rest. He found out that I was a avid hunter and when he was done delivering our son he stayed around and we visited for a while about hunting and where I hunted. During the conversation we found out that we had hunted some of the same areas. What a guy to be exhausted and stay around and talk to me about something we both love. RIP DR. COLE. KENNY.

I moved to Arkansas 5 years ago... I was 8 months pregnant with 2 year old twins and Dr. Cole had the greatest bedside manner. He made the birth of our "baby" so easy! I would look forward to my annual pap smear just to see him again. What an amazing man... he will be greatly missed.

Dr. Cole was a fine man and a great doctor. He delivered my twins 23 years ago after he and his partners accepted my "high risk" pregnancy without any hesitation. I believe without a doubt that I received the best OB care available anywhere. He continued to provide my medical services and often said he "couldn't imagine retiring." His care and concern will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Oh Dr. Cole, how I will miss you! I looked forward to seeing you every time I came into your office - be it for babies or just a check-up. It never failed that you would walk through that door with a twinkle in your eye and a develish grin. That voice of yours could always be heard clear down the hall - that heavy southern drawl that I would forever mimic when I had a story to tell about you. You made me feel like my pregnancy was the only one that you had to take care of. You supported my late in life pregnancy and then quickly told me "no" when I asked again several years later. I honored anything you told me because I knew you only had your patients welfare at heart. Such a good looking fella you were...back in your earlier years, I think you were known as quite the "catch". My MIL was a nurse many years ago and she said that all the young nurses used to giggle over George because he was so dreamy.;) No one...Men, women, children....no one could ever resist you. I'll think of you always with a smile on my face. I will miss you every day because I loved you. Peace be with you, Dr. Cole. You will never be forgotten...you are an icon for all of us.

I was very sad to hear the news yesterday that George Robert had passed. He was a wonderful person who brought me two of the best gifts I could ever imagine receiving, my two children. I will never forget the birth of my daughter. As he was performing a cesarean section on my wife, he and I were engaged in a deep conversation about our latest duck hunting adventures. It was comforting to know that my wife and children were in such great hands. Dr. Cole, you will be missed. There will never be another George Robert Cole. It was a pleasure to have worked with Dr. Cole at Washington Regional. He always had a smile on his face and respect for other health care professionals in his voice. I remember working one weekend when he delivered a record number of babies! I think it was 30 in a day or something!
He delivered my first baby 25 years ago! He and his partners at Parkhill created a positive and friendly atmosphere for women's health!
It's hard to lose a loved one, but I pray today that you can celebrate his life and remember the gifts his life brought to so many.
